Another tire thread.

I need to replace my tires because the front one is all cracked. I spent part of the day searching here and I could not find what I'm looking for. My bike came with the Dunlop 501's.

I don't do twisties and I'm not plan in doing it either. I use the bike basically for street riding at moderate speeds. I'm looking something practical that grips well, and last longer and not too expensive.

I'm still thinking on going with a 140 or if possible 150 rear and stock front.

What brand and model do you guys think will meet my needs?

JR, i am in need of a new rear tire myself - from the many tire posts on this great forum it appears bumping up to 140/70 in the rear is the way to go. you can get the Bridgestone Battleaxe BT-45's for $100 or Pirelli Sport Demons for $120 pretty much anywhere.

Which posts are those? I haven't seen anyone ever recommend 140/70 as an upgrade to the stock 130/70 sizes in the bias-ply (Sport Demon, BT-45's, etc). It will fit, but it doesn't necessarily provide any performance benefit that anyone has articulated, at least as far as I can remember.

There are a number of folks who have gone to different models like the BT-016's, whose smallest available size is 150/60/17, so that's what they went with. The BT-003's are available in 140/70/17.

sorry alex, maybe i was over-paraphrasing. should have stipulated both good options for OEM replacement and 140/70 should one wish to go a little bigger.

I’m planning on going with Pirelli sport demon to give them a try. I'll be getting the stock size for the front but I'm still debating about the rear, don't know if 150 or 140. I read somewhere that I could have some rubbing with the 150, is this true?

If I go with 150 or 140 should I go with 150/70 or 150/60 size?
140/70 or 140/60 size?

Also, how about the tread life on this tires compared with the gt501?
Is the sport demon a good tire if I'll be doing only freeway and street riding, I'm happy with the gt501 but I'm willing to give Pirelli a try if I don't sacrifice handling and tread wear.

jr, sorry dude, i'm really not the best resource on this subject. there are MANY threads about tire's - search and read away. i was trying to help you out based on the reading i've done - but have no first hand experience myself. good luck!

OK guys, what about Bridgestone BT series tires, are they any good for freeway and street riding or they are only for track?
If they are good for street riding, which one is the best option and what about tread life?

I am probably going to be replacing my IRC's with the BT-45's once they wear out. I've put almost 2k miles on them and they don't even really show signs of wear so it will be a while.

I have heard that the grip level on IRC's is horrible, but this being my first street bike I have nothing to compare them to. I do know that I ride pretty hard and have no problem railing corners at high speeds. I have never felt like the back was squirrelly based on the tire.

As far as wet weather, I don't have rain gear yet, so I haven't been riding in the rain. I'll be honest, though, if it were me and if the price difference is great enough and you really just need a high mileage tire to run the freeway, you may want to look into the IRC that was shipped on some of the '09 models like mine. Unless the tire starts to wear horribly within the next few thousand miles, I would think you could get some serious wear out of them. If, however, you ever think you may ride the twisties from time to time, I've read reviews that show the BT-45 is probably your best bet for handling, stability, and wear.

Anyone knows which tire should last longer?

I'm between pirelli sport demon, dunlop gt501 and bt45. this is the only thing I need to know so I can place the order .

Don't want to replace tires at 3 or 4k miles, I'm expecting betweek 8 to 10k miles. I have on mybike 7500 and the tread is good but the front tire is crack and I want to replace both at the same time.

of the 3 you have listed, the Dunlops last the longest from what I have read.

I'd concur with Kelly. GT501's last much longer than Sport Demons from what I've seen. No personal info on the BT-45's, but from reading here online it sounds like they'd be closer to the 501's than the Sport Demons in terms of expected life.

I have to order the tires from different vendors since non of them have the combo available. I was going to place the order when I noticed that one of them listed the tire as 110/70HB17 V-Rated and the other one as 130/70H. What is the difherence between HB and H?

The H is speed rating of 130 MPH and the B is a Bias Ply tire instead of R for Radial

Good pair Mine stock had alot of tread left at 7,500 miles when i took themof for some BT-090 s fpr the twisties

Those are the same I currently have, just confuse between the ones from tireexpress and motorcycle superstore, one is HB and the other one just H.
