Yeah, I'm a little attached to my bike. Husband frequently suggests getting me something newer, maybe something bigger, but I really like my bike. For my first year of riding, I haven't yet hit the capabilities of this bike. Plus, I'm getting used to the obnoxious yellow and now I like it. People seem to see me.

You just gotta love those little baby ninjas. So what if everyone can pass you. You can pass a lot more fuel stations. And let's not even get into how easy they are to repair

It's the reason I've kept it even though I've had 4 other bikes. I'll probably keep holding onto it and just add spare parts to the pile to keep it going.

I guarantee that not everyone can pass me if I'm on a curvy road. That's one of the really fun things about a small motorcycle... getting on a road like the Dragon and easily passing bigger, faster motorcycles.

Definately. They can't stand it when a little 250 ninja comes flying past them on a sharp curve. Hurts ego's a little, lol.

At the annual Deals Gap 2-stroke meet, we have a little group of guys who bring 100cc and smaller 2-strokes. We call the the little bikes "Ego Slayers".

Welp, got a new gas tank delivered yesterday. It's red and its got some dings, but damn if the interior isnt mint. No sealant in it, so hopefully I can keep it that way. Just need to keep filling it with gas I suppose.

Also got in the new lowering links. It's laughable how low it is now. But it's what she wanted and shes happy with it so that's good. Even went for a 60 mile ride today. Her first ever that long.

Now I just need to find a shorter kickstand. Anyone have one?

I've always just cut stands and added or subtracted length as needed, then re-welded them.

ha, typed at the same time as dcj13.

Guess you cut them somewhere in the middle? From the bottom it looks problematic with the triangular foot thingy. Think I know someone local that could do it.

Anyone know of a good streetfighter headlight setup? Want to pull the stock front section back towards the bike. I'll have a look shortly though around the website, but quick suggestions welcome.

I used an Emgo 7" headlight shell with Emgo cast aluminum ears. It takes automotive 7" round sealed beam bulbs. In this photo I have an LED headlight in it, and it sticks out more than "normal" quartz-halogen bulbs.

Kickstand has been cut and welded. After two trips because i was distracting him with my energy drink induced chatter and the foot got put on 90 degrees off. Much happier. Probably could have taken more off but as is its muchhhhh better.

Next up, chain and sprockets. I want her to have some more pep for around town so I was thinking 15/46. She wont be doing freeway ever I dont think. 55 will be the most she does. So I figure going up a tooth in the rear will give it a bit more zip. A 106 chain should still be good enough for it right?

Stock is 14/45. I doubt if going from 15/45 to 15/46 will be noticeable, but going back to a 14 front will be. It'll also be less expensive. JT has them at a very reasonable price.

I'm running 14/47. I had to go with a 108 chain. I too wanted more zip around town, and I'm glad that I did. I can still easily cruise at 70 MPH on the highway with this combo.

So I noticed a new petcock is less than a rebuild kit. o.O
Any one buy one like this? Think I may as well go for it since I need the gasket between the tank and the shutoff as well as the internal ones for my current one.

I can't remember if you mentioned your petcock before... what's it doing wrong? The main plunger o-ring that stops the flow can get old and hard, and new ones are like $5 for 50 delivered. I'd rather fix the OEM type than go to an aftermarket cheap one.

Oh yeah, after I got the new gas tank, I installed my petcock on it. And its got a leak from in it somewhere. I'm not entirely sure what part of the petcock is bad, but it's from 2003 soooooo I'm guessing all the rubber needs replacing on top of general cleaning.

My 2005 petcock needed only a new Viton O-ring, size 007, on the main plunger. The old one dripped when it was supposed to be off. Lubricating the 4-hole gasket with a small amount of EZ Turn fuel resistant grease is a good idea too.

Well, today was an eventful day. Her first big group ride and she had the misfortune of making a mistake mid curve and got a little lowside in the grass. She's good and we talked about what went wrong and what we are going to do to fix it. She's a trooper and was ready to keep riding once we got the shifter bent back straight.

That being said, the headlight is busted, the bracket for the left mirror broke off and the mounting tabs for the gauges broke clean off. Hopefully I can piece it all back together other than the headlight. I'll need to find a new one. But she wants to try the bike with the front fairing on so I'm gonna need to track down some bolts as well. Lost them years ago.

Petcock rebuild
Headlight
Gauges
Fork seal
Front bracket
plus various odds and ends to go

It's hard for me only because I havent wrecked in the 5 years I've been riding. But she is taking it all pretty well. In reality I think I'm going to coach her through fixing it. Though that might backfire resulting in her getting one of the garage bays to herself when we can afford a garage big enough to have what are considered bays...meh its a long way off.

Anyone have a good gas tank?
Lacquer thinner is a far more aggressive solvent than acetone. I clean carburetors with it - among other things.

Luckily we made sure to get her a full set of gear minus pants. The shoulder pad saved her a lot of pain I think. As did her gloves. And the super nice thick grass. She landed in possibly the best place I've ever seen. 6 inches of fluffy thick grass.

Probably wont do a big group with her again for a while. It kinda evolved on us and we werent expecting it starting out.

I just ordered a complete fairing set for my bike. I haven't gotten them yet but I've heard good things about them - sportbikebolts.com. They quote $29.78 for a complete kit but wound-up charging me $44.07. I got a color that matched my bike.

Well, I'm still fixing it up for her to beat around on, but me and her dad went in together on a little birthday gift for her. 300 special edition abs with 600 miles. So this thread may need to be replaced with a new one titled "Rebuilding my old 250 for me and only me"

Maybe when the motor goes, I'll finally slap in a two stroke single cyl or an electric motor.

Forget what I said about sportbikebolts.com. I got my kit, it's all messed-up and they sent me the wrong color screws. I didn't even get enough fasteners to mount my windshield. Well, it's nice to have some spare metric screws for my collection.

Probably your best move. Good luck with the 300. Now you can spend your time together riding and not wrenching.

Haha yeah, we've been doing quite a bit of riding together up until that drop. But that being said, she's still going to be the one fixing what she broke on the 250 lol. For some reason I can't bring myself to let the 250 go. It'll probably stay in the stable in one form or another for as long as I can hold onto it.

I'm in the same boat. I was riding a Honda FT500 Ascot for about eight years and got to the point that at 69 I couldn't pick it up if it fell over. I was about to give-up riding after about 50 years and then I learned about the little Ninja. The Ninja is more my style. But I have so much time invested in the Honda that I don't think I want to sell her. I never liked the bike that much and it doesn't do ANYTHING particularly well but I'm attached to it. Maybe I'll just clean it up, drain the fluids and display it in my living room.

Hah that is a cool little bike.

My 250 is basically family. I got it before I even met my wife. Our first date was a ride on the 250 to the beach nearby. First vehicle I ever pulled apart completely and got back on the road. Lot of lessons and memories sitting inside that frame.

...so as an update, this bike is now back under my hand seeing as how she decided she really wanted a 300. So now we have a 300miles 2016 300. On the plus side, its everything she could ever want. This will probably be continued in a new thread later this summer with a track toy build. Or maybe a thumper swap. Or maybe I ride it until the motor blows again and I turn it into the bike portion of a simulator.
