Seller rushing to move over seas and wants to sell me this bike!

Hello

I know I have been absent a while.,,, But I am back looking for a bike this spring. I have been scouring the internet for a Dual sport ... to change things up since my last rocket.

I found a Vstrom 650 decked out for adventure travel for dirt cheap and talked the guy down to 2100.

09 V-strom 650 with 48K miles for 2100$

https://newyork.craigslist.org/que/mcy/6140503407.html

I know its big, not a dual sport but I am super tempted to buy this, the guy is moving back over seas and needs to sell it before FRIDAY.

Please throw in your Two cents? I am considering just throwing 4 times as much money at a Triumph Tiger 800 ... but this bike is so cheap.

Do you want it because you want the bike or do you want it because it seems like a good deal? If you'd rather have that than a dual sport, then yeah get it. If you don't really want it but the deal seems really good, probably shouldn't.

@MrAtom - I love all motorcycles equally.... last couple years I have hit the dirt trails occasionally on my 1974 cb350... so I am sure I would have a blast on this and be able to motorcycle camp off of it.

@alex.s it does sound like a scam... but after talking to him and arranging to meet at a gas station I am pretty sure he is a clueless tourist/immigrant.

I have nice clear photos of the title , the bike before and after last nights mishap. He is driving out from manhattan in the rain so I can look the bike over.

And he offered to go with me to DMV and let me try to transfer the Colorado title into my ownership before I even pay him. Which makes me think he is even more clueless than I had believed before...

But I am not out to reverse scam anyone. Just possibly buy an offroad capable bike and be able to motorcycle camp this summer.

Considering the mileage on the bike, the motivation to sell, an out of state registration, etc. The price does not seem unreasonable.

If Colorado allows you to check the VIN or plate number for registration costs, etc, that might allow you to validate the history of the bike and identify any leans. If the title, registration, plate number, VIN all match, seem legitimate and are consistent with the sellers story, I would consider it an acceptable risk.

The V-Strom 650 is a very respectable light weight adventure bike. Maybe not so well suited for technical single-track or hill climbs, but certainly capable off pavement.

After looking at the title and considering what I have to do to title it and regi it. I am going to have to pass. He signed the Colorado title so I would have to title it in both our names and then re title it when I received the new title. to get his name off.

NYS allows people to title a vehicle in multiple names given that the registration and insurance match. then it only requires the signature of one owner to sell a vehicle. I had never heard of multiple owners of one vehicle before I tried to research the Colorado title.

The other bikes I am checking out , better suited for trail ridding with my friend.

Enduro KTM 620 RXC-E - $2200 with 10 k miles
and
99 SUZUKI DR 350 SE - $2250 with 11k

Both look like solid enduros. I guess If I am going for a legit adventure bike I will have to wait and save for a Tiger 800.

@adouglas

and now I believe in "love @ 1st sight" !!!!!

Ever since I drove my GSXR750 through the abandoned subway of Rochester I have been hankering for a good rocket with dirt tires!

Reminds me of the FZR600 that a neighbor threw dirt tires on when I was 18 and we ripped it around the farmers fields.... and it was scarrry lol

Rough ride and roost till high heaven.

Initially I thought "Kentucky. This has to be Kentucky. I know a guy from Kentucky and he'd love this."

Then I zoomed in on the truck license plate and saw it says Ohio.

Same difference.

I don't understand that. In MD where I grew up, and here in NC, the seller should sign the title when he sells the vehicle. Then the buyer takes it to the officials and gets a new title. In NC, the seller has to sign the title in the presence of a notary, but if it's signed and notarized, it should be good, if notarizing is needed in the seller's state.

I've had Vstroms 650 follow me on the KLR, even had a 1000 climbing a horrible rocky hill that I had a blast on with the Tenere.

They no longer follow me when I'm on the DRZ.
