New from Nashville

Hey everyone! My name is Shawn, I'm 25 and just picked up my first bike. Ended up with a 2006 Ninja 250r in black. It has just over 8200 miles and still looks great! I look forward to being a part of the community!

Hi Shawn, it's good to meet you, and that's a nice looking 250. You might consider making your location a little less specific, like "Nashville, TN" or "Central TN".

Welcome, here are just a few things to think about,

1.Get trained and licensed MSF Courses

2.ALWAYS Wear protective gear -- ATGATT All The Gear, All The Time -- including a helmet manufactured to the standards set by a government agency.

3.ALWAYS Ride unimpaired by alcohol or other drugs

4.ALWAYS Ride within your own skill limits and road conditions.

5.Be a lifelong learner by taking refresher rider courses, and advanced rider course A.R.C.

A.T.G.A.T.T. so I may ride another day.

Glad to hear that, don't forget to practice your drills, it needs to be second nature, especially the panic stop .

If you find yourself in my neck of woods give me a shout, also if you need any help, Nashville isn't too far away.

Very true, that's why I stress the importance of practicing them when I teach a class, and proper braking techniques, also slow speed maneuvers, like the box for instance.

Most important is ride your own ride, ride within your limits, especially when your new and starting out.

Too many new riders have an accident due to they are pushing themselves too far/hard, especially is the case if your riding with a group of people, don't feel the need to keep up. Odds are if you have to try to keep up, then your at your limit, slow down and take your time, and just enjoy the ride. Hopefully they'll wait for you further down the road.

Whenever I ride with a group, I prefer to stay towards the back, and hang back , I feel a bit safer, and I can keep an eye on the newer riders. Especially if it's a group I've never rode with.
