How expensive would it be to get a brake caliper piston custom machined?

I'm looking to get my Ninja ready to be hand-me-down'ed to my brother. I noticed a little dribble outside the front brake, and figured I'd rebuild it. To my dismay, the pistons are pitted and no good anymore, and this price is the best I could find, and it makes my tummy hurt.

I don't know the first thing about custom machining. To anyone with experience or knowledge on the subject:

How expensive would it be to get two little thimbles machined up?
Is it a bad idea?
Am I better off buying the rebuild kit above?
Is there a company anyone here could recommend?
What other considerations should I make?

You can get a whole EX caliper on eBay very cheaply. We buy them all the time to adapt to the Kaw triples for better stopping. Many EX bikes use the same one... you can check the parts lists if in doubt.

An example, but do your own vetting:

What keeps me from wanting to do that is a previous experience I had in buying a remanufactured brake caliper for a car that came with pitted pistons. But for prices like that, I think I'll take a chance. Thanks!

Find out from the seller, either from the description or by message, that the piston is in good condition. Then if it's not, eBay will make him take it back.

how about seeking a part out from a fellow member of the forum here? I'd be more apt to trust a ninjette member than a stranger on ebay.

I forgot about the Ninjette marketplace in my hiatus from the forum. Already bought a caliper. If it's all pitted, I'll send it back and get one from here. Great advice lol.

The last time I bought an eBay caliper I expected to have to rebuild it and get pads. It was an EX250 caliper in excellent condition and had nearly new EBC HH pads. All I had to do was bolt it on to my H2.

I haven't had any issues with used-parts off eBay. Look at photos very carefully. Read the description very carefully. Look at seller-ratings very carefully.

One and only problem I had was non-delivery of wheel. Turned out UPS f*cked up and delivered it to identical street-address, but 2-blocks from their distribution-centre in wrong town. I was actually 25-miles away. Probably stoned yutes relying way too much on GPS.

I'm happy to say I watched "my cousin Vinni" when it came out. Never heard of that word again, until now. If it wasn't for that i would have googled what animal a "yute" is.

Carry on!
