any modifications needed to bolt it up to a stock bike?
how's it compare to that other unit you tried? what improvements does it make over the stock shock? 2 way??? ... compression and preload adjustment? |

Bolts right up to stock shock mounting positions. I haven't tried one yet. I have one on order & should have it for the next Willow Springs round in a few weeks.
Preload and compression/rebound are adjustable. Mounting is very easy. Just put the bike on the rear stand. Have a floor jack handy to place under the dogbones to un-weight the suspension just a bit. Top and bottom bolts are easy to remove. I can change my shock in about 10 minutes |

Wow very nice. You keep adding all these nice parts to your store. Makes me think I need another bike to turn into a race bike.

Running a Works Performance currently. Its a good shock, but would like to try something different for comparison purposes.

double clicker?
it kinda sucks that we totally setup my bike before i even really rode it. we've got all the trick stuff on there, but i have nothing to compare it to. we're running the penske triple clicker, which is probably overkill, but i really couldn't tell you if its any better than something else.... all i know is that when the bike isn't doing exactly what i want, i tell my tuner and he twists some knobs and sends me back out... its a wonderful thing but doesn't give me any comparisons....

Double clicker.... yeah, good to know what the baseline is. You could probably go back to stock in an hour or so and see for yourself.

Added the 3-way model to the store. Check those prices! Same quality as Ohlins for $100 less. MUCH cheaper than Penske.

weighing only 120 lbs I'm wondering if a aftermarket shock would be worth the money for me since I barely weigh down the stock suspension. It would be nice to be able to adjust the dampening though. On another note, Im wondering if anyone is going to come out with a set of fully adjustable forks for 250 racing applications (that would be an expensive mod but it would be awesome.)

i'd only buy an aftermarket shock if you were going to race or maybe if you're a serious track junkie. a properly setup shock is amazing, but probably not necessary for riding around the streets.
at this price point though, i'm sure it wouldn't hurt! the problem is knowing how to set it up.... it takes a little magic and its highly recommended that you get a professional to help you dial it in.

Lot of truth there, however..... if you're a serious street rider with access to a lot of twisties, you might be seeing cupped rear tire wear. A rear shock will give you much more confidence and properly setup, should make your rear tire wear evenly.

hmm so maybe this will make sense for me to upgrade? not just for tire wear but.. there are a good amount of twisties up here and I ride pretty much every week. sometimes when I hit a slight dip in a turn, I bounce up from my seat a bit. I'm guessing adjusting the preload isn't really going to make a difference to help prevent this? it's starting to get annoying not to mention makes me less confident to go fast on some turns with slight dips

i'm not sure what adjustments help what handling problems, but i do know i can tell my tuner "that bump in turn three is kicking my tires up off the pavement and scares the hell out of me" and he turns some knobs... before i know it that bump is a non issue.
