World Superbike Laguna Seca – Sykes, Laverty trade wins

Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes wins thrice-restarted Race One, Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty works for Race Two winIt was a day of mixed fortunes for World Superbike Championship leader Tom Sykes, as the Kawasaki rider managed to overcome two restarts in Race One (the first caused by wildcard rider Danny Eslick, the second by his National Guard Jordan Suzuki teammate Roger Hayden) to earn a well-deserved win. Race Two didn’t go as well for the Yorkshireman though, as he went from first to fourth in the final three laps of Race Two. Sykes still maintained his points lead, with second place now held by Race Two winner Eugene Laverty; Sykes still holds the lead by 23 points over Laverty, with previous title challenger Sylvain Guintoli dropping to third another point back after suffering a subpar weekend, finishing fifth in both races.
