This is embarassing

I went on my first long(ish) solo ride on Saturday. I put my car/house keys and some other stuff in the under-pillion-seat storage area.

I was feeling all competent and cool when I got home and took off my gear.

Then I couldn't find my keys, or a few of the other things I stuck in the storage area.

I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to take out the little box in there to no avail. Took off the side panels and removed the seat and then found all my stuff sitting next to the battery.

When I was putting everything back together, I found this little washer? on the ground, and couldn't figure out where it had come from.

Anyone know what this is?

There may be more than one of those, but the place I know it from is close to where you have it laying.

I've found mine on the back side of the lower cowling near the grommet that holds the forward point of the side panel.

See the attached...

To answer the confusion, if you pull off both seats and the two tail pieces, you will see that the plastic barrier between the rear seat area and the ECU has two large cut outs for wires, then nothing between the ECU and the battery. The undertail slope takes things down to or under the battery box.

Its a good little storage spot, but need a box or bag that'll hold small items from bouncing their way forward.

Cool, thanks. I'll take a poke around again and see what I can find.

I don't think I'm a lot dumber than you thought that I think that I thought I was once.

lol I've had the same thing happen. I went to Wal-Mart and got some waterproof camping bags. No more lost things. No more wet things.

Its rubber, its like a little bumper back there. Though I can't recall what it lies against that needs it. I lost both of mine and never bothered replacing it.

It keeps the fairing from rubbing the tank. Since losing mine there is a line where the clear coat and paint have been worn away but it's covered by the fairing and it's not causing corrosion so I don't really worry about it.

I might see if I can figure out where it goes when I pull everything off to wire my GPS.
