Vibration Around 8k RPM
I recently picked up a 2011 Ninja 250R. For the first month or so I wasn't revving the bike up that much. Now that I have started riding freeways and shifting at a higher RPM, I noticed at around 8,000 RPM I get a bit of a resonance coming from something vibrating down inside the fairings.
I am not sure if it's the instrument console or the headlight or the horn or something in that general area of the bike. I don't feel any real vibration in the handle bars it's just a noise at this point. I am worried something is loose and that it might fall off or break off while riding. Because this noise only happens at high RPM it is incredibly difficult to diagnosis where it's coming from with the bike sitting still. Is this a common issue due to the engine vibration around this RPM? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try? One thing I had noticed was that for about a day my horn was making a similar resonance noise that sounded similar to the vibration at high RPM but then it stopped and now works like normal again. I tried moving the horn around but it feels like it's bolted on solid. |

Check engine mount bolts, you wouldn't be the first or last to have one come loose.

Had the same thing happen yesterday turns out it was just the nuts on the exhaust manifold rattled loose. Tightened them up and all is well again.

I know it's not the clutch handle. I will check the exhaust manifold nuts. I still haven't looked at the motor mount yet either. I haven't had time to figure out how to pull the fairings off. I am sure there is a write up on here just need time to look it up.

I checked the exhaust manifolds and they were tight. Any other suggestions?

what does it sound like? is it regular? or irregular? does it ever skip a beat?
if it is irregular i would say it sounds like a loose cam chain or cam chain guide. if it is regular and rpm dependant i would look for something attached to the exhaust that has come loose.

It is a consistent hum it doesn't throb (get louder and softer). Is that what you mean by regular?
I will have to tear deeper into it this weekend and see what I can find. Something has to be loose somewhere. |

All previous posts very good answers check/verify them all. One of might be carb synchronization especially mid to top end where these bikes live.
Through a carb stick on and see where you're at adjust accordingly

I went through everything and it was all tight. Went for a ride and the vibration started again with my fingers resting on the clutch lever. I re-positioned my hand and it went away. I couldn't believe I went through all that and it was just the clutch lever after all. I figured with my hand resting on it before it couldn't have been the lever but with just a little side load on it the vibration stops instantly. Problem solved, thanks guys.
