Lost Throttle Response
I need help here, I was riding my bike a few days ago, I had been riding for about 70 miles, I was going up-hill at about 80MPH and suddenly my speed started to decrease. I did let go of the throttle and rolled it again and no response, I did this about twice and held the throttle rolled. Once the speed reached about 30MPH the speed started to increase and I was on my way. I should not let out that I was getting close to an empty tank so I exited the highway a few miles down and filled-up. I did not have the same problem the rest of the day, but I have not used the bike since then.
Is it possible this happened because I was running out of fuel and going up-hill? Has anyone come across this problem before? I know little to nothing about motorcylces... |

Quite possible yes. Could also be a tank venting issue. If so, you cured it by opening the gas cap. Do a quick search of this forum for "venting". Maybe you will find similar issues.
First time it's ever happened? Any recent changes to the bike? I wouldn't worry about it to much unless it happens again.

The fuel system is a gravity feed system. It requires the weight if the fuel itself to feed the carbs. It is also possible for the the bike to slow down while riding on a flat surface if the fuel is too low. The carbs tend not to fill up as fast. I had it happen before. Any amount of throttle more than 1/4 resulted in a non response. The jet needles tend to start moving at this point and the carbs draw more gas. Low gas, go slow.
