You will be fine with EK or any other popular brand chains. Parts Unlimited chains are what I believe to be made by EK. That was what I was told a while back from my motorcycle shop owner. I would avoid cheap chains unless you feel like replacing them more often.
JT sprockets are good as well. I would suggest upgrading to a 15 tooth front sprocket at least to reduce the buzziness and high RPMS for highway riding. If you want to go even further you can drop the tooth count of the rear sprocket down to a 43 or 42 depending how what you are looking to get out of your bike. Most people run steel sprockets for longevity at the cost of weight. I wouldn't want to run an aluminum front sprocket as they will wear out much faster than the rear due to the tighter turn the chain has to go through. Aluminum is light and also soft so it will wear up slightly faster than the steel on the 250. Our 250s don't have the power compared to larger displacement bikes that will accelerate the wear of a rear aluminum sprocket.

I just recently bought JT sprockets and DID chain from sprocket center. Price doesn't seem so bad, and the quality is great.

I have never used a chain breaker before but I just used pliers and brute force. Maybe a vice grip would work better for you.

I did my chain and sprockets recently. I had to get my local mechanic (50 metres away from home) to use his rattle gun on the front sprocket to loosen it. Then after I replaced it he rattle gunned the new one back in and put the clip on the master link on properly.
I got a DID 520 VX-2 (106 links) and JT front/rear sprockets. The rear sprocket was larger but had the same number of teeth. Front sprocket was identical in size to OEM. |
