Deflecting Exhaust - Anyone Disassembled Stock Exhaust?

I'm finding that one of my mounted hard bags is getting cooked by the exhaust gas about 6 inches away and 1-2 inches up from the stock pipe. Can anyone think of a cheap and easy way to deflect the output more downwards?

I went and bought a 1 inch copper 45 elbow from Lowes. It just about fits into the outer ceramic thing, and easily fits over the actual pipe. If I sanded it down, I could wedge it in there, but I would need a better way of securing it.

I started to take out the bolts on the end of the exhaust, but one seemed really jammed in there, so I decided to hold off lest I break it. Just wondering if anyone has disassembled it, and if so, if there would be a semi-easy way of adding some sort of deflector like the above.

Could you just bolt a metal plate on the bottom of the bag.

That may be the ultimate fix, but I'd like to avoid drilling holes in my $200 bags.

You may be able to get some type of adhesive heat resistant foil that you can stick to the bottom of the bag.

There is a good chance I'll put some silicone caulking to the bottom of the case as insulation and then one layer of foil tape as a heat shield. Let me know if you find a better option.

Bolts just hold the beauty ring on, muffler is welded together.

Just buy a CF Area P - shouldn't have a problem then

Yep chrome ring is just for looks.. I cut mine in half, the top half of the can inside is like 4 different tubes in there then the bottom half is just a preferated tube connecting down to the inlet of the can. Believe there's 2 seperate like plates in there seperating the cans into like 2 sections. Its a really odd design actually lol

Go to lowes or home depot and look at their clothes dryer exhaust plumbing section. They have all kinds of parts for deflecting heat for less than $10.

Nathan and I are trying to redirect the exhaust gases on a stock exhaust downards a little bit because it is grazing the bottom of our sidecases and generating some hotspot blemishes.

We've found this endcap to hopefully modify so that it can push the exhaust gases downwards more and still look nice. Does anybody have this on their HMF exhaust that can measure the dimensions. Namely the base diameter, exit tube diameter and pitch angle?

Before suggesting other ideas, we've tried raising the sidecases a little bit, and putting thermal heat shielding on the bottom of the cases. Heat shielding works well for radiant heat, not exhaust gases.

By adding it you add relatively minor resistance to flow when compared to the exhaust and it's baffles. The only real issue I see is it not staying put!

I don't think you'll notice any change.

Are you asking for options for mounting the copper as well? I'm thinking just drill some small holes through it and the metal exhaust tip and adding some aluminum rivets. If the slip on fit is not good enough for that option maybe a wrap or two of exhaust tape first then rivet on. Another option depending on the clearance of the "appearance" rings... you could split the copper elbow and then use a SS clamp similar to what you would see on other exhaust system joints.

sorry for not posting this sooner.. i found it in my files of pics

this is the inside of the can off my 2011, this is the top half of the can, the other end i cant find but its basically a open can in the first half with a large preferated tube connecting from the header pipe to the largest one of those pipes in the pic, the very inner shell of the can behind the black outer can is one large preferated pc with holes all through it and a thin pc of fiberglass packing .. anyway maybe someone would find use of it one day .

this was the end result of cutting like 8" off the stock can and rewelding the beauty ring back on
