DanMoto Exhaust installed 2012 250!!!

Got my exhaust on friday, and put it on friday nite.. It was a pretty easy install until you have to bolt the pipe to the bike, lol! Luckily my boyfriend was able to push it in far enuf, i was able to screw the screw in from the back. Fun Fun! But totally worth it! I didnt do any modifications to the bike, she seems to run smoother, and actually warms up faster. I use to run her for 3-5mins to warm up, now its under 1min, and she is ready to go! The only difference ive noticed so far, is that when im at a stop, it idle's at @2, vs she used to idle at 1.5. LOVE the deep grumble sound which is exactly what i wanted, its loud, but not too loud. I can still hear my ipod lol! Totally worth the $126 i paid, and i ordered on a friday, and it got here the following friday from china.

I have this exact same slip-on my 2011, and I agree. Cheap, sounds good, can't say anything about performance (if any) but it both looks and sounds many time better than the stock putt-putt can.

Grats!

I cant believe how heavy the old exhaust was compared to this one.. when i got it in the box, im like.. is there an exhaust in here?! Its so light!! I feel like it runs smoother.. if that makes since. I dont think its any faster or anything. But yeah, sure sounds 100% better!

Nice! The DanMoto seems to be pretty popular given its price point.

I had the same thing happen to the idle when I put the two brothers on mine. The manual says the idle should be around 1250-1350 rpms. It took me a bit to tweak the idle screw, but I managed to get it to sit around 1500 after the bike is all warmed up.

There's a little black plastic knob on the left side of your bike. Under the tank around the carb area. You should see it even with everything on the bike. Turn it and it will raise or lower your idle. It might be hard to turn and feel like it's not doing anything, but you'll hear and see the idle change

Nice. Im glad you like it. For the price, you can't go wrong. I have the same can and love it too. you should look into shimming your needles or getting a jet kit, depending on how much you gonna mod the I/E system.

Shimming is always advised when changing to an after-market exhaust.

Yeah, i dont know about all that stuff.. i just know it runs fine. I think i need to adjust the idle, but other than that, it seems to run smoother than it did before. How would i know if i have to adjust anything?

Shimming really isn't that bad and there is a great DIY on here.

Noticeable symptoms should be that the bike would feel as if is lacking power on the top end. I'm not sure how hard your run your bike but this would be a lean fuel condition which is not so good on the motor.

since you dont plan on further modding the I/E system, shimming with 2 washers should be fine. although if seems the bike is running great, you are running a little of the lean side. shimming will richen up the bike a little to make it run better. if you travel through the entire RPM band, you will notice a flat spot. shimming will fill in that gap.

also, shimming is not hard at all. im sure ur BF or another member here can help you out. there is a DIY on shimming too

My bf doesnt know how to do any of that stuff.. I did see the DIY on shimming.. i just heard once you mess with that, you have to adjust it all the time. As for taking the tank off, etc.. it probley sounds easy to you guys, but ive never done anything like that before, and ive had the bike for 3months.. my 1st bike.

He can do it. Its easy to take the tank off. Show him the DIY and I bet he'd say he could.

Mary I think he can do it. I seriously think you could even do it. These bikes are REALLY easy to work on. I will probably forget how to put half of it back together and figure it out just by looking at DIYs and pictures... its pretty simple

It seems to run exactly the same as it did before.. other than it idle'ing at 2 vs 1.5... so i really dont think anything needs to be adjusted? Idk.. im going to see how it does, but so far, she runs exactly the same.

So did your bike run different after you put the pipe on? Mine runs exactly the same, i havent lost power on the top end, or anything-not sure if i would be able to tell if it was running lean, etc..

when just riding around town you cant tell if its running differently, but when on the highway i could definitely feel a flat spot in the mid to upper range RPM band, especially under hard acceleration. also, you can tell my the small of the exhaust and also by the color that is left on the inside of the exhaust tip. the bike was surely running lean. i then shimmed with 3 washers and it was too rich...then 2 washers and things are a lot better

Ill keep an eye on it, so far it runs the same. If i see the exhaust tip is white, ill know its running lean, then ill have to try to do the shim. Me= shimming.. lol

wow that slipon is quite a bargain! I'm actually quite interested in getting one but I do not think that the DanMoto comes with a built in O2 sensor, infact on their website they sell "O2 Sensor Eliminator" for the EFI 250R, they claim using the eliminator would not lower performance, I am not so sure... Any thoughts?

Actually it DOES come with instructions. Go to http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...danmoto&page=3 scroll down a bit and you should see it. No removal of the exhaust necessary.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the Danmoto too, would you say that it's loud enough to have me kicked out of my apartment? (I head out to work @ 4 in the morning....and oh! did I mention that the 'head' of our 'neighborhood watch', who is 85 years old, lives next door )

Yes, you'll have to take it off... The baffle goes inside the actual muffler, where the adapter piece goes together with the muffler...

And mine came with instructions that were actually better than the instructions for the muffler itself! LOL!

With the baffle, I don't think you'd be kicked out, as long as you don't rev it too much... The tone at idle is a bit louder than stock and has a nice rumble, but you rev that sucker and it definitely will get some attention...

LOL! I have old neighbors beside me as well, 4am is pretty early tho, they would probley be a little upset-especially if their bedroom faces your garage!! My neighbors said they can hear my bike blocks away! I really didnt want to order the baffle because i like it loud, and in the beginning it was great! Not sure if they have a breaking in period or what, but it seems louder than it was when i bought it, and now its just kind of annoying.. lol! Which i never thought id say.
