I have no idea what I'm doing

The title just about sums up my current technical (heck, perhaps even riding) experience with my Ninja. Maybe it's in my head, but I think the engine sounds different from when I bought it. Less solid, much more "empty." It's as if there's this slight rattle or click mixed in with the engine noise. I might just be going nuts, but here's a link to an audio sample just in-case: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40723606/Nin...0%20Sounds.m4a

I haven't done any maintenance on the bike except for changing the oil.

WOAH. DO NOT TURN THE BIKE ON AGAIN.

Dude, you have a serious engine problem if you listen closely...

You'll hear it sounds fine. Did I scare ya?

Mmmhm. Sounds like a pregen ninja 250 to me. But I hear that emptyish sound too. My friends 07 sounds like that as well. But mine sounds a little more solid. It is weird to explain. I think they are all just a little different. Haha. I have no explanation. Possibly it is my bike that is messed up.

4k miles. I have absolutely no idea if the valves have ever been adjusted (I don't even know what that means).

I think this is a change, so that's why I asked.

Sounds like normal ticking valves to me. Could be a little on the loose side but that's a good thing.

if you only have 4k on the bike then unless the previous owner (I'm assuming there was one) was screwing around for fun your valves likely haven't been adjusted and don't need to be until 8k. Your bike sounds fine don't trip. Go out and ride!

If the previous owner never did the initial 500 mile valve service they may be out of spec. But I wouldn't really worry about it. Your gonna want to check them at 6000 miles so just wait till then. FYI: You should check the valve clearances every 6000 miles with the pregens.
