Performance Carb?
Anyone know of a performance carb or way to pull more horsepower besides an exhaust? Assuming money wasnt an issue and dont want/cant move to a 600.

Rejet? Pod filter?
There was someone who bought a aftermarket carb for our bikes, i'm not sure where they found it. I remeber it being like $1,000though. Rejetting can do a lot for you.

There is a carburetor set from Keihin (the manufacturer of the ninjette stock carb) that is meant as a performance carb set for the ninjette. It's $455, prejetted and is ready to bolt in.
Keihin CR31 carburetor. |

I have used the CR Specials from Sudco for two years. The ease of adjustment and performance is awsome.

All I have done to my bike is the bridgestone's. 150/60 rear & 130/70 front. The rest is completely stock. Just performance wise all I hear is to rejet & exhaust. That just cant be it.

well, if your bike is stock, no wonder you're complaining about the power.
don't knock the mods until you've tried them. it turns the 250R from a mild beginners bike into a capable, great running 250. you'll never get the bike to pull your arms out of their sockets from acceleration, no matter what you add to the bike. the real skill with the ninjette is to work on keeping your corner speeds as high as you can. you'll be surprised on how much "performance" this bike can deliver when ridden well in the twisties. if you have a need for speed, perhaps a day at the track can open your eyes as to the performance potential of your bike. find one in your area and sign up. ... and I sure hope you really don't have a 130/70 front tire and that was just a typo? |

I'm with kkim, try some of the performance mods and see where that puts you. The bike will never be "holy s***" fast. It is much more of a turner than a straight line cruise missile. Though, you will be AMAZED how you can embarrass dude on 600s or liter bikes in the corners, just don't expect to win a drag race... with anyone.... or a snail....

I would do the mods in stages so you can see what each brings. some of the mods can be done for literally pennies or better yet, free!! read up... there's lots to do to keep you happy/busy if you're truly the type that can't leave things alone.

Keyword, STAGES. It's a major pain to do a bunch of mods and then realize something doesnt work right and spend another month troubleshooting them. First mod, shim the **** needles. You'll be surprised how different the engine pulls and it costs under $5. Assuming you dont mess up something more expensive (ie. diaphram).

I would use the money to pay on my loan.
That being said. Pull the snorkel (free) shim the needles ($5) find a used stock muffler and modify it. (??$50??) enjoy while paying off the loan. OWN the bike, then decide where you would like to spend your money. Mods?? bigger machine?? new car??

i just put Two Brothers Black Series Exhaust on mine yesterday and it made a BIG difference! Obviously not scary fast but it made it very responsive and smooth. Not to mention loud and obnoxious which is just the way i like it!!

Not to be too much on a noobie but how do you turn if your front wheel is in the air?
Is that a 600?

In the US the ninjette only comes carb'd. However over in most European countries it won't pass their higher emission standards with the carbs, which is why they are fuel injected over there. Actually I think in most countries other then US it might not be able to pass emissions with the carbs lol. Yes that would be the Hayabusa. Early models were 1300cc but newer models are now 1400cc. I think the earlier poster was just being a smartass lol. |

The FI ones are for the UK, some parts of Europe (not all), and I believe Japan. The rest of the world (not just the US) gets the carbed version for now.

I know we aren't the only ones that get it alex, I was just being a little sarcastic cause of how many people think the US has higher emission standards then most of the world. Kawasaki said flat out that because of the EU emission standards they can not offer the carb'd version in any countries belonging to the EU. The carb'd version just will not pass the current EU emission standards. However, it has no problems passing here in the US.

Yup. Emissions laws are complex. One of the reasons it can pass here in the US is that the specs are different for different cc classes, and less than 250cc has less stringent requirements than larger bikes, at least up through the 2011 model year. Things always move forwards, though, and at some point it's practically inevitable that we'll be moving to the FI version. Whether it's next year or 5 years from now, who knows...
