Ignition stuck
It won't turn on! I rode my ninja all day. Parked it in the driveway for bit.
Came back and the stupid key would not turn to ON position. It's going into the shop today but I want to know why!!! I blew some WD40 in thinking there might be little dirt that flew in. Didn't work. I'm so bummed! And it all happened just as I was about to go on a ride with buddies. Any advice? Does this happen to ninjas lot? I think I will have to get whole new ignition switch thing. (sry idk what it's called)

Wiggle the bars back and forth a little, then try it again.

Did you lock your forks too or no? If you locked your forks you may need someone to help wiggle your forks while you wiggle your key.
If you use WD40 to flush the lock, that's fine but you should lubricate it with a little bit of graphite when it's dry. |

Maybe obvious but I had a key cut at the dealer, they are 2 sided but only 1 side worked well, the other almost never works... so maybe flip the key and try again? Also as stated above wiggle the bars a bit.

FIXED!!! yay!!
I did lock the forks but they released.
Turns out i had a piece of plastic stuck in there. I have no idea how it could have possibly got in there but it was in there. Dang it!! but turns out i have 3 bolts missing on my shocks! So one thing turns out to be a blessing because there was only one bolt holding it all together. Could have been some major damage right there!! anyone know where to get Kawasaki bolts? do i just go to the dealership? thanks for all your help though! i spent a good hour wiggling, turning, moving my bike around trying to get it to work. Stupid plastic piece!!

Since you kinda need those bolts for your shocks NOW, I would definitely go to the dealership and get some.
Otherwise you can check out places like BikeBolts. This mysterious plastic piece that ended up in your ignition is very intriguing. Do you have a picture of it? I am also curious on how exactly it got in there. Maybe someone is messing with your motorcycle? The reason I say that is because I just don't see it getting there by its self, especially under normal operation. I am glad that you were able to spot what could have been a serious problem. This is why I always use T-CLOCS before and after I ride. |

Glad you got the ignition figured out. As for the shock, I would hit the dealer right away.

yea i think ill have to take a trip to the dealership and get the bolts this weekend or tomorrow afternoon. and yes! the plastic piece is intriguing me as well. I have heard horror stories about people that get their bikes messed with and i truely hope this is not the case but it could be. My garage is accessible. The owner before me could have done it. (which i doubt because i got to know them, sweet people!) or someone on the street could have done it too. very scary considering they could have done something way worst. I will post a picture of the piece if the mechanic still has it!

i did have it lowered but it was just the back end. The shocks in the front were the problems and he didnt mess with the front so he wouldnt have seen the bolts missing until now.

OH maybe it was the forks. Whatever it is, it is under the ignition. He probably referred to them as the shocks because i dont know all the terms so it make it a bit easier to understand. either way, there needs to be bolds holding down whatever needs to be held down. know what i mean?

Glad you figured out the ignition. I always have a problem with mine, but it's my own fault. I always seem to apply press down on the key as I try and turn it on and unlock the bars and it just won't budge. I finally realized if I just put the key in and turn, it moves like butter.

May have a solution!!
I know this is an old thread but yesterday my ignition got stuck, same sort of thing, could initiate the steering lock and everything but as far as turning bike o on position it was a no go, tried WD-40, oil, compressed air EVERYTHING, I was at my wits end so I grabbed my smallest Allen key and put the tip of it in the barrel and turned the silver part on the top of the tumbler 180°c, don't ask me why I did this but, it worked, somehow while taking the key out I must have accidentally turned it and that happened, MAYBE that happened to you? If anyone experiences the same problem again, give that a try, it worked for me and saved me the time and cost of replacing the ignition, and I literally spent 3 hours trying to figure it out, on here, youtube and tried EVERY REMEDY I saw, this was the ONLY thing that worked. Hope it's the same for you. Good luck!
