[motorcycle.com] - 2017 Honda X-ADV Preview

A year ago at EICMA, Honda debuted its intriguing City Adventure concept, combining an adventure-bike design with a scooter platform. Today, Honda officially presented the final production version in the 2017 X-ADV. At the moment, the X-ADV has only been announced for Europe and it’s not likely to be brought over to the U.S.

The X-ADV is powered by a 745cc parallel-Twin with a dual-clutch transmission inherited from the NC700/750 series. Honda claims a peak output of 54.0 hp at 6250 rpm, while maximum torque of 50.2 lb-ft. is reached at 4750 rpm.

Rather than using the same frame as the NC series, Honda developed a new tubular-steel chassis to create room for 5.5 gallons of underseat storage space. The 41mm upside-down fork offers spring preload and rebound damping adjustment along with 6.0 inches of travel, while the preload-adjustable Pro-Link rear shock offers 5.9 inches of travel.

Up front, the X-ADV runs on a 17-inch wheel while a 15-inch wheel spins at the back. Both use stainless steel rust-resistant spokes and come wrapped in chunky-looking block-pattern tires. Radial-mount four-piston calipers stop the dual 310mm front rotors, while ABS comes standard as per Euro 4 requirements.

Other features include a five-position adjustable windscreen, all-LED lighting, a CRF450 Rally-style instrument cluster, Africa Twin-style hand guards, and a shot-peened aluminum bash plate.

The 2017 Honda X-ADV will be offered in four color options. Digital Silver Metallic and Matt Bullet Silver are the standard colors, but Honda will also offer a Pearl Glare White with the Africa Twin’s tricolor scheme and a CRF-inspired Victory Red.
