Bay Area Mellow Group Ride 9/15

I am now a big fan of the Mellow group rides set up on BARF by BigB. He sets up multiple groups of varying skill levels so you can ride as fast or as slow as you like and "riding your own ride" is highly encouraged. All groups are followed by an experienced sweeper so no one gets left behind. There's usually lots of riders and its tons of fun.

Hopefully I can snag a few of you bay area ninjetters (I'm looking at you @Lychee @rojoracing53 @SanaryKiss @Huytanle @bluepoof @CThunder-blue @Sushilover @Fly'in Ninja @some other guy forgot his username @Grandmaster Alex) We gotta represent! Best part is I don't have to go through the headache of planning or implementing a fun ride, we just tack onto an already well planned fun one

BigB hasn't posted the ride yet but last I talked to him he said it would be 9/15. Hope you guys come out so I'm not the only 2fiddy there

Edit: Quote from BARF

Meet Time: Sat, 9AM, KSU 9:30AM

Optional Meet Spot: Golden Gate Vista (North side of bridge) Be there 9:45A. Will arrive by 10:15a. Leave you behind by 10:30a. (Post if you are meeting there!! No posts, I may not stop there.)

NOTE: Weather may change the route, make sure to check thread on Friday for updates.

Lunch Stop: Marshall Store LINK

Things to bring: Cash. Lunch stop is cash only. Bridge toll may apply, depending on your route home after we hit 1 & 101 North of the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Arrive with a full tank of gas. We are meeting at a gas station. Easy fill up there.
  • Make sure your bike is in good operating condition.
  • As usual we will break into groups depending on who shows up (to accommodate varying skill levels) if necessary. Everyone is expected to ride within their comfort level.
  • Safety is our priority.
  • Experienced riders who wants to ride a mellow pace are always welcome.
  • Volunteers for lead and sweep always welcome and appreciated.
  • We will be making several planned stops to regroup and stretch any sore legs.
  • All riding levels are welcome, Mellow pace required. PM or post if you have concerns.
  • If you arrive after the pre ride speech, you must ride in the last group until the first rest stop.
  • This route is our longest of the 'MGR' routes. If you don't have experience with all day riding, this may not be for you.

Route: (approx 230 miles, 6 hours seat time + lunch stop + Pit stops)

LINK

Ride Notes:

This route is MUCH longer than our normal Mellow Group Rides. If you have never been on a ride with me, this isn't the best one to start on. Start on one of our normal Mellow Group Rides. If you have been with me before, and were 100% comfortable with the distance between stops and the format we ride, you should be fine. Note, we will be riding farther between stops on this ride.

EVERYONE is expected to know the route. We will have leads and sweeps, but this route is too long for us to guarantee we will keep an eye on everyone. Know the route, know the freeways in the area we are riding.

We will be stopping for gas, every 100 miles.

Any questions, please ask!!

Not long at all, lol. I can literally count all the times of me riding on my own. I'd say 2 months? ~25 times around the parking lot, 4 times riding at night with barely any cars around for about 1-2 hours ea. time, 6 times riding from point A to B in the day time, 3 times on the freeway, and 1 time on a short 2 hour easy route on Uvas(Uvis?) just as a trial ride with my bf.

Experienced enough to go, I think so. Experienced enough to be impressive, not the slightest bit! I'm still awkward and shaky at turns/ u-turns and sometimes I stall at stoplights when it turns green But I'm getting better lol

Oh Uvas, I love that road. That's pretty much where I learned to ride. The first month I had my first 250 I literally rode that road every single day. Now I go on it when I'm just looking to cruise, I call it 4th gear twisties

My route. I still do it once or twice a week if I'm bored

I think you'll be fine on the ride. Last ride there was a guy who was pretty new and pretty slow and he did just fine. So long as you don't try to keep up with whoever is in front of you, you shouldn't have a problem.

Well I live in Santa Rosa which is a bit up north from San Francisco. I work as a dining room server for elderly people so a bomb threat would be quite something haha. It's a place called Brookdale Senior Living

OK, I asked for Friday/Monday/Tuesday. Still haven't decided 100% but I did order a gel seat pad and a SAE to USB adapter.

Why the **** am I thinking about a 2800 mile 5-day marathon? I need to get away but this is really.... away.

So who's still planning on going to this ride?

I'm heading to J&M motor sports in mountain view in a little while to pick up my freinds first street bike(red ninja 250) I plan on taking him with me on the ride.

He's also pumped about heading down to chuckwalla with me next weekend for his first trackday on the 250.

No thanks, I've seen my nipples, and it's a thing only my wife would want to see. That's why I married her, lol (27 years... poor woman).

Experienced enough to go, I think so. Experienced enough to be impressive, not the slightest bit! I'm still awkward and shaky at turns/ u-turns and sometimes I stall at stoplights when it turns green But I'm getting better lol
You'll be fine, I'm bring my buddy Cameron out for this and he just got his first ever street bike yesterday so I have to better then him
I'm going to break him in on Mines road on the way out there

Bay Area Group Ride 9/15/12 PIC DUMP!!!

BARF ride today, ended up totaling 282 miles. I think from now on anything over 200mi I'll take the 1000, 250 just aint comfy enough! Got some good video, tons of people there. Too tired to think. Oh, my dad got pulled over, that was neat. And this squid almost died 3 times in front of me, got it all on video

Commence dump

From the peak of the trip to home, 141mi 282mi round trip
