415 chain conversion kit
Hi guys,
It's cheeks here, letting you all know that I talked to Mark from www.aftermarketcycles.com He's interested in making some more sprockets for the 415 chain conversion kit. Total weight savings was around 3lbs. This is rotational mass so it's effect is multiplied. I've seen it in action and it is great. Ask rexbo for details, it's the only thing keeping me from passing him j/k. If anyone is interested in getting this post up here!!! |

Sup, Cheeks. So, you finally decided to get in on this huh? LOL
Are you saying Mark won't sell you one unless there's a gang of peeps interested in it? Also remember Steve & I got our @sses handed by Jason & Tony who weren't running these...or were they? I thought they weren't and if they weren't how impressive is that. |

Jason was running a chain conversion. Tony did not. They were definitely quick!!! That was some impressive riding on a 250. I've got video of the second race that you missed, Ill post up at some point. |

Hi folks -
Most for sale threads need to remain in the marketplace area here, and are subject to the same rules as every other vendor wanting to sell things through this site. Links users post to an external site ("go here and buy this, it looks like a great deal"), are generally OK elsewhere on the site. But when vendors themselves start to post up pricing and group buy information directly here, it's no longer the same thing. Marketplace Forum Rules - Alex

Does an 18t actually fit? I've got a 15/45 on there now. Looks like an 18T front will be tight?
Also I guess we are needing more bottom end with the gearing? 45 46 47 48 15 3.00 3.07 3.13 3.20 56.00 57.00 58.00 59.00 18 3.11 3.17 3.22 3.28 At your recommended sizes(18/57) we won't have as much top end. barely cracks 95 now...might be better out of corners though. New to Road Racing so really asking...thanks. In MX I would have gone for a similar ratio but smaller sprockets to save additional weight. Lighter sprockets, less links of a chain, etc... Thanks.

So over the stock setup the advantage lower rotational weight. How big of a difference will a 3pm difference make on the street?

If it is I didn't feel it.
It's more about weight than anything else. Gearing, if you calculate it, is the same as stock.

I think some of the manufacturers of the gears are claculating the ratio using the diameter of the gear and not the # of teeth.
agree with nemesis, it's all about weight savings. the difference is notable. If you spin the rear wheel with the 520 chain, you will notice that it stops shortly after that. if you spin the wheel with the 415 chain, it just goes round and round and round. |

The final drive ratio is just that; a ratio of the drive shaft sprocket to the rear wheel sprocket that tells you how often the engine will be turning for every revolution of the rear wheel. Seeing as the teeth are all going to be a set distance apart since the chain links are all a set size, it would be easier to just figure out the final drive ratio by comparing the numbers of teeth on each sprocket. In this case, 1 tooth is 1 unit. The diameter doesn't matter because the number of teeth determines the circumference of the sprocket, which is really what matters since the sprockets won't have the same angular velocity, but will have the same radial velocity. for example, stock gearing is 14/45. 45 / 14 = 3.21 57 / 18 = 3.16 note how similar those two are. That was a ton easier than needing to find the diameters of each sprocket. |

i totally agree and the either way the calculations are similar. I don't know why some people do it that way. But the people as sprocket specialist mentioned that that's how they measured the ratio. :/

So far we have 5 bikes on the grid running the 415 chain upgrade. Another way to make up HP is by dropping weight. In other words, if your HP is at say 27 and ours is at 30 losing weight on the bike will even the odds. And this is the perfect way to do it.
I'm thinking of buying another set for my other 250 and asked Mark ETA and he said I can pre-order them and they should be done in 2-3 weeks.

good cal nemesis, having some choice on # of teeth for the rear could help out big time.
I also heard that the sprockets are gonna be ready in 2 weeks, plus they got a single piece D.I.D. 415 ER chain!!! So no more buying 2 chains to make one longer one. Also there are only 5 of these available to order, so all you track rats or racers, step your game up. The 520 chain is totally overdesigned for the 250. Maybe it's because if you rearrange the letters in 250 you get 520. I preordered mine from here: http://www.aftermarketcycles.com/str...cket-set.html# |

Master link 415sht rivet
Would anybody know whether this Tsubaki rivet master link could be used on DID 415 chain? In other words, is size the only consideration or might there be other manufacturing differences between Tsubaki and DID?

It's not shorter, it's lighter. The idea is that less rotating weight accelerates more quickly with the same torque applied.
