damn, just ran the numbers through on my '01 since I'm considering making it street legal again. $108/year for full coverage. I'm tempted to convert it back to street trim after my track days in July end and let my older bro borrow her to have a little fun I'm not entirely sure he'd jump on that though since his gf would hate me but $108/yr is definitely worth it.

In the Uk I have a Carole Nash "six wheel" combined policy, car is comprehensive and bike 3rd party fire and theft for £385 the pair
I since read premiums fell 25% this year, Theirs didn't so next renewal it's haggle down to around 300 or goodbye

I notice US policies are a lot cheaper
Some one said auto insurance was nor compulsory in some states ?

It's required in most states but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't in some. There are states that don't require a helmet or a motorcycle license to drive a motorcycle.

I could have paid less but major surgery is expensive and I don't have much faith in California drivers actually having insurance.

Do you mind sharing your insurance stats / what you get for $175 a year?

Where abouts on "Earth" are you from? How long have you been riding? How much coverage do you have for personal injury and uninsured motorist?

From what I understand insurance rates get a bit better if you have had your motorcycle endorsement for more than 3 years.

Sounds like a good deal. The 500K uninsured raised the price quite a bit.

I'm in British Columbia. Unfortunately, the only place here where you can get auto or moto insurance is a Crown (gov't-owned) corporation called ICBC. As they have no competition, their rates are not great.

I have more than 20 years claim-free, so I get a maximum discount of 43% on my insurance. Even so, any motorcycle under 400cc costs me about $500 for $1 million basic liability. I also pay about $160/year for comprehensive on top of that.

If you think that's expensive, you should see the rates for larger bikes.

Well, I discovered doubling displacement also doubles premiums. Went from $52 / month for my 300 to $98 / month on my 636.

How much is your insurance?

How much is your bike insurance alone?

I have liability, which is $5 a month. Probably going to upgrade to full this month.

A buddy of mine, with whom I just rode again today, is paying $300 a month for full coverage for his Yamaha FZ-09.

It's amazing the difference between US/Canada. In Toronto, State Farm was definitely the best. Down here, I've found Progressive to be the best.

I just saw my post in 2009 and I was paying $1400. Now I have liability for $99. A much cheaper hobby now

With liability only on my 2001 Ninja 250, I pay only 84 cents/month.
