the video won't open on my computer.
there is no "standard clutch rattle" for a ninja 250. I would be worried about the needle bearings, warped clutch plates, notches in the clutch hub or basket, worn out clutch springs... does the bike do anything weird? "drag" or clutch slipping? does it creep forward when you put it in gear? secondly I might worry about crankshaft bearings but probably those are fine if the noise goes away when you pull the clutch in |

The PreGen has the basket noise which is very common on the PreGen, and nothing to worry about. It's a design flaw. It make a knocking sound, but if you engage/pull in on the clutch the sound goes away.
The NewGen basket is a different design and doesn't suffer from it. Someone here swapped a complete NewGen basket/clutch setup on a PreGen, and it works and fixes this problem, the downside is price. @Alex please move to PreGen Tech section.

I have worked on a bunch of pre-gen ninja 250s and never heard a knocking noise from the clutch. getting the video to work would be super helpful!

I would describe mine more as a rattle than a knock. It's similar to my 1972 Kawasaki H2's clutch rattle. Both get quiet when I disengage the clutch (pull the lever).

Ghost & Triple Jim- This sounds like we're talking about the same noise- I hope you're both right and this is just a design flaw that won't affect performance (or explode). PS> thanks for all the help so far, even though I posted this question in the wrong subforum! |

Still no go on your file, but it's simple enough to test, when it's making the noise just disengage the clutch, squeeze the lever, if noise goes away th n that's your problem, and it's nothing to worry about.
Both my Ninjette and EX500 make the same noise and it's nothing to worry about.
