1995 EX250 Thermostat question

Hey ninjette! I am finishing up my tracker 250 build using an old 1995 250 as my platform. My question is: the thermostat wire (coolant temp switch) is just to send a signal to the temperature light on the dash correct? The thermostat still works as intended without the positive wire running form the point to the coolant temp gauge because all that wire is doing is just lighting up a bulb telling the rider the engine is hot?

There’s two sensors at work here.

1. Coolant temp-sensor drives gauge. It doesn’t do anything other than that.

2. Fan thermoswitch drives fan and dash light.

Thermostat is completely separate from these two systems. Although interdependent in fan thermoswitch and fan operation. Make sure fan runs at high-temperatures otherwise you risk blown headgasket and permanent engine damage.

sounds good. I ran a wire between the two connections on the fan switch and it fired up. Tested my radiator switch that kicks the fan on with an ohmmeter so I should be good to go then. Just wanted to confirm that the tiny lead on the actual thermostat under the gas tank was just for the light.
