What cages appeal to you right now?

Something breaking on my Impala has me looking for new cars...just in case. Plus it is fun to look.

I know I won't be in this car forever. Hopefully only another year. I really want to get a car I love and will keep for a long time.

My wife doesn't quite get my love for cars, but I always have had muscle cars (except 2 of them). Mustangs have been in my garage since I was 16. I did have a Honda Civic, but 120hp is a little light for me. This Impala is nice and has me looking for new things. I love quiet cars, but I don't want one that rides like this one. It is plush, but it has no "life".

I like the VW Golf, but it is small. I also like the Jetta TDI, but that is a little different. I like hatches, but this would be one of the few sedans I'd own. It could work, plus I like how it is built. Subaru is nice as well. I loved the WRX I was in around a race track. The thing gripped like crazy. That would appeal to me. A Subaru Outback would be a decent alternative, but less sporty.

Right now, I REALLY love the Audi A3. My friend has one and man, the thing is awesome. Plus I love the way it looks. I can get a fairly decked out one for $31K. More than I'd want to spend, but if I plan on keeping it for a long time, it would be worth it.

And on a side note, my absolute dream car:

If you don't know what that car is, then you aren't a car person.

The A3 avant is very nice. Love the interior, but surprisingly little legroom in the rear for the size of the car. This is just my opinion but German cars are a huge headache when it comes to maintenance. Any little tiny thing that goes wrong (and it will) will cost you at least 3x the amount to fix than on the Japanese or domestic counterpart. (think things like window regulators, or washer fluid sensor, etc.)

Anyway you really want to focus on the interior of the car you're buying, since that's what you'll be seeing 99% of the time.

A3 TDI. I'd love that car. Maintenance might be a pain though.

The Chevy Cruze impresses me.

Yup, you need a Subaru Impreza WRX! I would love to have this car. It is a perfect daily driver, bike hauler, autocross car, rallycross car. What can't this car do? I love em'!

The Ghetto Porsche (1992 968) is starting to really show its age. My exhaust sounds like it's made of soup cans and paper clips, and there's a ton of other little things that would take significant time and/or money to fix. I would love to upgrade to a 911, Corvette, Lotus Elise, or some other ridiculous vehicle, but I should probably become employed before I do any car shopping.

Oh, and if money were no object, I would also probably replace my Magnum with a CTS-V wagon. Oh my god hot.

Cadillac is my favorite car manufacturer, and the CTS-V is one of my favorite cars ever. The wagon is by far my favorite of the trio just because it's so ridiculously awesome!

They are, but there are small things that make them different, mainly the interior. I love the A3 interior, but the Golf's interior isn't that bad either. I could stand a GTI, the stock golf wouldn't be bad either. The leg room has improved since years back.

Heck yeah, the WRX comes in BLACK CLOTH! I love cloth interior, plus it also has a seat warmer, which my wife would love. Equipped how I like it and I'm looking at $31K, same as the Audi, but I get AWD and a 265hp Turbocharged powerplant.

The Golf would be a better choice, but the 5-door liftback version only comes with the DSG. I would prefer the manual transmission.

I can't remember how noisy the WRX's are with stock exhaust on the highway. That is a big factor for me. Yeah the Golf is slower, but it is quieter at speed than most cars. Even the Toyota Yaris is pretty quiet, but I just can't own a Toyota these days.

I was going to buy a Subaru Impreza WRX a year ago, but I ended up backing out of the deal because the gas mileage scared me.
Same with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.
I currently own a Chevy Cobalt SS Coupe. It's pretty fun to drive, especially when considering it's FWD. Plus, the turbocharged 4-cylinder has plenty of oomph to keep me happy.
To be honest, after driving my Cobalt SS for a day and being able to overtake cars on the highway like it's nothing, the 250R feels much slower than it really is. But the 250R is definitely more fun to ride, though the Cobalt SS does its thing beautifully.

My Dad used to own a Laguna Seca E46. Without those ugly ass rims though. It was one of the first in the U.S. it was the demo car at the dealership here. It was so sexy! I wish he never got rid of it. Oh well. Maybe someday I will find a used one.

I was so close to getting a Laguna Seca Blue E46 several years back. It had 25K on it and they only wanted $38K for it. For some reason I passed it up. I still don't know why I did.

I also was also upset because around the same time there was a red E30 M3 that went before I could get it, like an hour before. Those things are so difficult to find in good condition.

If I had the money, I'd just buy the current M3 and strip it as much as i could to try and replicate a CSL

I couldn't do that. Granted, if you strip it, you can sell all those parts quite easily under what the dealer would charge. Still, it would ruin the M3 for me. I'd at least enjoy the parts while I have it, once they go bad, if I want to ditch it, then I would.

I am all about performance, but there are some comforts that I just refuse to go without. Down here in Texas, I used to own cars without AC and drive them all over the place. These days, I just refuse to do that. I'll toss on the extra weight so I can be comfortable. Plus, I'm no longer a racer, so saving the weight isn't that big of a deal for me. The car just has to be fun to drive. I don't care if it is kind of slow. The fun factor has to rate pretty high.

Like for me: WRX, GTI, A3...all have a fun factor. That turbocharged engine, the handling, all means fun.
Subaru Outback: while not a road oriented performance vehicle, it could tear up and down dirt roads quite easily, so that would be fun too.
Jetta TDI: More luxury based ride (even though cheap) but it would be fun to tinker with the TDI. Those things are crazy reliable.
Civic SI saloon: Yeah, I'm considering one. Last I checked, it was still loud. Would have to think about it.

I'd like an Audi RS5.
Almost everyone I know has an Audi.
According to Top Gear it drops a splash of petrol on the hot exhaust when downshifting to give it a warbling sound.........that's cool!

Nissan Leaf first, Chevy Volt second, or maybe vice-versa. The thought of not knowing how much gas costs is just soooo appealing. Talked with a Leaf owner couple weekends ago. He hadn't bought gas in almost a year.
