Ninja owners who also ride bicycles

It would be interesting to see how many Ninjette owners ride bicycles--and what they ride. I ride: 1) Eddy Merckx Premium Scandium Custom (2004) 2) Fuji Finest AL-upgraded to 105 Grouppo (2004) 3) Nashbar Touring bike, Aluminum frame, Chromemolly fork-Suntour Grouppo (2006) 4) Univega Comp--Tange Steel frame, lugged: SORA 8Sp STI,(1981) 5) Univega Viva Sport--restored--all original. Suntour LaPree Grouppo.(1979-80) All my bikes were built up from framesets except for the Viva Sport, which was a restoration.. Am currently looking for a Chrome Schwinn Paramount to restore.

I have a 1998 Cannondale M400 that spends a lot of time on my trainer.

My main ride is my 2010 Trek 1.5. I love this thing.

I also have a Diamondback Viper BMX bike that I want to sell. I want to replace it with a commuter. Lights, fenders, racks, the works.

Trek sure makes great bikes. I think that the Armstrong Effect is quite strong. Looked at a new Madone---OMG!

Oh yes. Trek makes an awesome bike IMHO. I love my 1.5, and I absolutely refuse to ever give it up. I want to get another Trek, a 1.2, for commuting.

OR

Upgrade to a better bike and use the 1.5 for the grunt work. A Madone would be nice...

Lance did, and continues to, have an effect on Trek's sales. Now he is back, you see him and Trek all over the place.

I ride when I can . I used to ride all the time till 03 when I started riding motorcycles more than bicycles. I did not have a car till last month . and that is just to carry the motorcycle . I had all the big bikes . But I like the ninja 250 because it feels like a bicycle to me. My wife rode 10,000 miles on a bicycle last year.

I used to ride and and still have a Pinarello Record Equipe frame with a Campangnolo record group. Frame is Columbus SL steel tubing. I have had this bike since the early '80's. The method that I acquired it, I don't want to get rid of it. Although I don't ride it very much anymore, mostly because I am not home to ride, I still love it. Ride is sometimes rather harsh, depending on the road surface and tire pressure. But I keep it for sentimental reasons.

Woah, many of you guys have pretty nice bikes! Does anyone have a wheel set lying around they are willing to sell? I would like to up grade my 1X1/4 thick wheels on my '86 Lotus Challenger. (I am posting here because I think it isn't worthy for its own thread )

Make sure to measure the axle length, etc. They vary from bike to bike.

If I had that Pinarello, it would be waxed and polished like a mirror and would be hanging on my living room or den wall. That is a REAL Classic.

Don`t sell the Lotus Challenger short. They made a fine bike and belong in the era of Univega, Panasonic, Bridgestone, Nashiki, Miyata, Shogun, etc. These bikes were made in Japan using Tange Chrome Molly steel. They for the most part had lugged frames and were made to a standard only enjoyed by custom bike makers today. Your 1X1/4x27" wheels are probably Araya Wheels. I would try Harris Cycle.com. They are the experts on vintage bikes and could probably set you up with some Mavic hoops. On my Univega Viva Sport, It came with the top end Arayas and I laced in Simano 105 hubs with Wheelsmith Stainless spokes. The Viva Sport could pass as a new bike.

I used to bike 18 miles a day with my old 10 speed in my teens and then upgraded a CCM bike that i bought in 1991 for $600. I don't remember how many speeds though but remember it has very skinny rims and an egg shaped sprocket and feet straps that i hated. Been picking up dust for the past 15 years.

How do you guys stay in training mode in the winter, does anyone have a stand that you keep training on?. Want to buy one but don't know if its worth it.

LiL one, Your bike is probably a 12Sp. Toe straps are no longer popular and have been replaced by "Clipless Pedals"--lots of different ones on the market. I am partial to LOOK pedals made in France. The egg shaped sprockets you refer to were popular for a short time in the 90`s and were called "Biopace" The sprockets were shaped in an ellipse and that was theoretically supposed to give a better power transfer. I find Biopace to be a PITA because unless you are super careful shifting the front derailleur, you will drop your chain. I restored a classic Scott Centurion for a friend. The bike has Biopace and he loves it. He did get rid of the toe clips and got LOOK pedals. You can take the toe clips off your pedals easily. They come off with two bolts and then become conventional pedals. LOOK pedals are pricey---over $100.00 a pair for the high tech ones. There are others that cost a lot less. You should dust off the bike and ride it when the weather gets good. That $600.00 bike was a good bike in its day---a lot of it hand made and good quality materials. I have a magnetic trainer in my shop that I use primarily in the winter to "Road test" a bike I worked on and a means of fitting a customer to their bike---seat adjustments, stem length and heigth, etc. I do ride the trainer with my own bike an hour every other day to keep my butt in shape. I do ride a stationary bike at the YMCA every day. The Y is about 300 meters from my house. At age 68, I can`t afford to get out of shape.

I have a decent little indoor trainer. I picked it up from a friend for $30. It is only about 5 years old, little use, works great for me (he said he didn't like it).

You find deals like that all over, you need to just network with cyclists Raven.

I have heard of many who ride when there is even snow and ice out. I would, but then again, I'm pretty crazy.

I am in an auction for a Raleigh Wyoming. Right now it is at $63. If it passes up my max bid of $65, I'm going to pass on it. Too much work needed to invest more than $65 for the purchase price. I'll be crossing my fingers. 7hrs left.

Also debating on jumping on a Cannondale moutain bike. It is at $71 right now (a local auction). I may have to snipe that one.

I have found that Lawn Sales, Garage Sales, the newspaper, Goodwill, and Salvation Army Thrift Stores have been a good source. A friend just picked up a really nice Pugeaut for $12.00. at our local Goodwill. Spring is a great time because people clean out their cellars, attics, etc.

I'm hoping if the snow and wind subsides i will go pay a visit to my old and faithfull bike since i have to put the battery tender on the ninja which are both in my parents garage i'll check out how much dust is on the bike and hopefully we will get a couple of days of nice weather so i can bring her for a whole checkup.

I really need to pick up the sport again but at the same time scared that my knees will give out like they did when i use to bike soo much.

Good call, I need to hit up those places to try to find a commuting bike (I didn't win the auction).

If I can't find one, I may go the new route and get one of Trek's Urban bikes (fixed gear most likely).

Looking at the Soho S:

Maybe even the 3rd District:

I ride MTB. Trek 4300, few years old. Converted it to 1x9 this year.
Tires upgraded to Panaracer Fire XC Pro
Original crankset swapped for RaceFace single w/ bash.
Front derailleur removed.
Front shifter / cable removed.
Reflectors removed.

...next is to swap for a short cage rear derailleur.

The doctor told me it was arthritis and i had to stop biking before it got worse. I remember one time during my training i felt alot of pressure on my left knee, stopped the bike and to my suprise when i got off i could barely stand up and fell. Thankfully someone called my dad to come and pick me and my bike up.

Never did much biking after that. They doctors could never prove it is arthritis but all i know i can predict when it's gonna rain lol

That sinks! Well if you do get into riding again, take it easy.

I love the trainer. I do intervals on it. I spend maybe 30 minutes on it max. I'm panting like a dog stuck outside during a hot and humid Houston summer day. It is a great and quick workout.

This was my first 2 wheeled love. Going to start training for my first half iron in July. Sometimes it's hard to choose between running or riding.
