Dropped bike, loose shifter
Hey guys I'm quite new to riding (around 6 months experience so far) and have no experience with mechanic work previously. Had my first lowside yesterday pulling into a gas station and thankfully wasnt injured. The bike I have is a 2009 Ninja 250.
After the slide, the gear shifter was bent completely backwards past the footpeg itself. Thankfully a kind stranger pulled out some tools and bent it back and I was able to get home. However the shifter itself wont screw back in completely and the whole thing is quite loose. Do I replace the shifter or is it just the bolt that ties it in the only thing that needs replacing? Sorry if its a newbie question. I've uploaded a vid of the issue: Also, if it is just the bolt that needs replacing, does anyone know the specs of it so I can pick one up at the hardware store https://vimeo.com/844648874 thanks for your help |

The video shows that the bolt is bent. It's a special shoulder bolt, so the simplest fix is to buy it from a supplier like Partzilla or a similar Kawasaki parts supplier near you. Partzilla's website will get you the Kawasaki part number.

Yeah, replacement bolt available here:
https://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-ex250...list/0012.html 1. order replacement bolt 1st 2. you can try tightening that bolt, might leave shifter crooked and binding 3. try straightening bolt. Remove and screw matching nut on end. Clamp nut in vise. Bend bolt in proper direction with pliers until threaded section is straight. May break bolt in process. Luckily you have replacement on way |

I expect that bolt will take more than pliers to bend back straight. Like drill and tap a block of steel, thread the bolt in, and use a brass hammer to straighten it.

Yup, order the new bolt. don't try forcing the old one. That can get expensive!
