follow the line back and see where it's connected. On my bike I added that type plug as a recharging point for the battery when using a smart charger. I have the end of that plug connected to the + and - terminals of the battery. If someone else owned the bike before you, they might have used it for something different, so you need to find out where it's connected before plugging stuff into it.

that is not stock... someone added that.

But..but... I bought it new..

I just followed it back. It in fact, goes to the battery. So I could hook stuff up to it? i.e phone charger?

I have one for my battery tender too. I also used one to may a DIY GPS power cord... I like to disconnect it when I am not using it (99% of the time).

You must have bought your bike used?

EDIT: Your post came through as I was typing.... I don't know why it is there. Were there REALLY zero miles on the bike?

I have the exact same thing sticking out of my back seat, but I put it there on purpose. Mine is a lead that came with my battery tender jr.

It is connected to my battery and allows for a quick connection to the charger so that you can top off the battery or keep it charged if you will park the bike for a long time.

Since yours is a 2010, as Kelly mentioned, most likely a previous owner did this. If so, then this wont be very useful to you without the actual charger.

Here's the tender:

yes, it's a constant 12V source direct to the battery. whatever you hook up to it should have an inline fuse of some sort to protect it.

maybe the dealership installed it to keep their bikes charged and forgot to remove it when you bought it? If that's the case, don't worry about it, you've already paid for it many times over.

you'll find it very handy to keep the battery charged, if you plan to store the bike over the winter.

I suggest the Regular Battery Tender (Battery Tender Plus), not the Jr. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't THAT much more $$, but I don't believe the Jr. has all the "smart" circuitry. If I am wrong about that, someone please correct me.

I dunno, I thought that the Jr and the Plus had similar smarts, but the Plus had a bit more amperage and could charge a battery faster. But like you, I could be wrong as well. The latest Motorcycle Consumer News magazine (the black and white one with no ads that now has a little color), just had an article in there about the newer types of batteries, and compared a bunch of newer generation chargers. The AGM batteries like to be charged at a higher voltage, and the newer chargers take that into account. He (David Hough) did a couple controlled tests, and saw where the battery voltage was afterwards. The Battery Tender Plus was at the bottom of the list, barely able to get the AGM battery where it needed to be, and the recommendation was any of the newer/smarter chargers than the old standby. For the life of me I can't remember the name of a single one of the better chargers, but it's all in that article.

FWIW I have two Plus's in my garage, it's all I use, and I do have an AGM battery in the BMW.

My brand-new bike has that connector as well, so it is definitely there from the factory.

Interesting... Does it show up on anyone's wiring diagram for this bike, or is it an easter egg that just started showing up at some point?

I didnt see it on the wiring diagram in the owners manual, or on any diagrams on this site.

Some dealers put them there as they rotate some tenders in their warehouse or sales floor. Mine puts them and doesn't remove them when the bike is sold.
