Looking for sub-200$ camera.

Hi guys, I had my first track day on Sunday and unfortunately all I have to show for it is some really bad footage with chunks missing. I'm looking for a good camera that won't break my bank. So GoPro Hero3 and Contour roam+2 are both out of the question. I think I'm down to these choices.

1) ContourROAM Hands-free HD Camcorder - 119.95$
2) Contour ROAM2 Waterproof Video Camera - 199.95$
3) Drift HD Full 1080p High Definition Helmet Action Camera Kit - 199.95$
4) Action Video Camera from Sony HDR-AS10(no wifi) - 178.$
5) Action Video Camera from Sony HDR-AS15 - 248$. This one would really be pushing it and I don't know if the wifi will really be all that useful? I have an iPhone 5.

Feel free to tell me if I've missed something.

I went to the Dallas Supercross this past weekend and the GoPro truck had some deal going on where you text "GoPro" to a number and they emailed me a code for $100 off the Hero 3! So I have a few weeks to order one and use the code before it expires. Hero 3 for $199? I will have!

I'm looking for a sportscam in a similar price-category and after comparing and watching some reviews, test-vids and so on, for me the Drift HD works out best. I opened a thread in this board too (http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=124297)
Still doubting between the Drift HD and the AEE MagiCam... That Magicam has nice videoquality too, sharper than GoPro Hero 2... It also comes with lots of mounts in the box, all the stuff i was looking for is in the box. Though, it's more expensive than de Drift HD (here in Belgium it is, no clue what price you can find it in the US, India etc...).

I don't know anything about those cameras you posted but why not look at gopro's on Craigs . When I wanted a second camera I didn't want to spend so much but wanted good quality picture/video so I bought my second one off a guy on Craigs and works great. Came with plenty of mounts and just worth $100. Just make sure to check things out, even take a laptop to hook it up to make sure everything works.

Just my 2cents

I am pretty much trying to decide between the Contour ROAM2 and the Drift HD.

Hmm...

I have the drift hd170 stealth, it's pretty good, has some issues. I've heard the hd1080 has some issues as well. Also note that the drift brand in general has pretty crappy low-light quality.

Drift HD Ghost, it's new, just came out in November, has some nice features, battery life is awesome (according to specs/reviews). Here's a review...

Link to original page on YouTube.

I plan on getting this soon.

i just got the drift hd1080 and its great, I bought it off amazon as well and if you do decide to get it get the 220 dollar package the two extra batteries it comes with is worth the 20 bucks. I was expecting to only get two batteries but it came with three so I was super excited. I got it mounted to the helmet today and to get the view I wanted I had to put it a little more forward on the helmet than I wanted but it doesnt affect anything so I am happy with it. I also plan to try to find another camera to mount down on my lower fairing but for that I plan on hitting up the CL that way if I ditch the bike I wont be out an expensive camera

Yes, but you never mentioned a budget and I wasn't sure if you were aware that there was a new one out.

The "video tagging" one was really impressive. Almost sold me on just that feature alone.

That and the badass remote that lights up to indicate if it's recording and such. They really put a lot of thought behind the whole thing.

"sub-200$" in the title seems a bit obvious

Yes, Hans was asking about "sub-200." I'm not speaking to Hans, I'm speaking to Manny and he didn't mention budget. Also, Manny was curious about it in Yakaru's crash thread.

Indeed. I also like the form factor, the fact that it's waterproof right out of the box at 9.84 feet and the great battery life. Anyways, I pulled the trigger.

The only thing I don't like about the GoPro so much is the form factor. Looks a bit odd on a helmet whereas the others are more inconspicuous.

The Contour+2 and GoPro hero3 both have better reviews and cost the same.

for what it is worth: I love my Contour+2 -- for those debating between the Hero and the Contour (at whatever price point) my advice would be to ask where the camera is going and what you want out of it:
If it's going on your helmet get the Contour. It's got a better shape and the mounts are more flush. If you're mounting on the bike itself then both work well.
If you want to hear the engine but not the wind get the Hero. The Contour audio is usually just white noise at speed. Of course, if you get a model that takes an external mic then that changes the situation completely.

I think I'll stick with the Sony as soon as I can afford it... 248$ with wifi.

Either GoPro Hero 3 White or one of the Drift cameras. I Personally wouldn't go with a Sony as I don't think they're really proven themselves yet.

Every one knows the GoPro's can take a bit of abuse and work fairly well same with the Drift cameras to some extent.

if you want to record any sound get one that can use an external mic.
it will cut down wind noise a bunch.
