odd fuel issue

I have an 01 that I put about 1500 miles on the 1st month that I could ride this summer. All was well, no issues at all.

At some point, the fuel wasn't going into the in line fuel filter (that has the arrow pointing the right way) so when the bowls were empty it would die.

I figure, hey, I'll read the FAQ and see what I can learn. It's barely more to buy an entire new petcock than it is to rebuild the old one. The new one came in and i put it on with no issues. While it was off I decided it would be a great time to drain the fuel that was in the tank and put fresh in.

As soon as I hit the starter, the filter gushed full of fuel and it ran fine for like 2 min. Since then it hasn't run right.
The vacuum line is hooked up and the fuel line is new. Can anyone tell me what is wrong????? I'm ready to scrap the thing.

Thanks in advance.

have you checked the stock filter? it's a small inline filter located at the end of the fuel line as it enters the carbs.

also, have you tried popping the gas cap when the problem arises? it could be a tank venting problem.

I have also bypassed the filter a few times.

Is there something vacuum based that i may be missing? when it is running if i pull the vacuum line off and put my thumb over it there is a pretty good amount of pressure.

the vacuum to operate the petcock comes from that hose that runs to the top of one of the crabs. You can try removing the vacuum hose from the back of the petcock, install a another hose on the there and suck on the hose. Have the end of the fuel line disconnected from the carbs and see if you can get a steady stream of gas to flow out of the fuel line. If you can then you know the petcock diaphragm is working properly.

if that checks out, check the hose that runs from the back of the petcock to the carbs... may have a slow leak/split? does the bike idle well when it runs? usually if there is a vacuum leak, it affects the idle smoothness.

if all checks out okay, you can rule out fuel delivery from tank to carbs as the problem and work from there.

The petcock has 0 miles on it. Its new straight from Kaw.

so you are telling me to get an new vac line and pull pressure by sucking on it while the fuel line is unhooked from the petcock to make sure i get flow?
I just want to make sure i got it right.

is there something extra on the carb that does just vacuum?

Thanks for the help as usual
