17mm is metric, everything on the bike is metric
 Don't ever use something that isn't the exact size or you'll end up stripping it

One question about torque wrenches:
Do 12 inch pounds = 1 foot pound? I'm just curious if it converts, because I bought a torque wrench that goes from 120 inch pounds to 960 inch pounds. I'm assuming this will work. |

I agree, go with the 3/8ths.
One more thing I'd like to add, and if you know this already I apologize, but for anyone who doesn't; don't EVER use your torque wrench to loosen a nut or bolt. I have had several co-workers do this and completely wreck the torque wrench. Basically, you can damage the internal mechanism and from then on you think you are torquing to 19.6 Nm but in reality it is less than that. |
