just so happens

SO! i went to look at the motorcycle today. (referenced below)
going in i had 2 concerns. one was wondering how much 'apart' the bike was, and hoping that whatever has been removed is nearby. secondly, the bike is in Kalaheo town, and it tends to rain ALOT more there than where i live on the west side. i hoped the bike was under cover.
as the picture shows, it's under cover...in fact the bike and parts boxes were buried under other...shtuff. the owner was in the process of changing out ALL the plastics..from tip to tail, and had installed a brand new yosh pipe that ya really cant see. he has another brand new muffler in the box...looks like a different color..or darker. anyway...the pipe and plastics alone gotta be near or over the $2,500 she's asking. the bike went down on the right side at slow speed, and judging from the damage to the stock exhaust it seems to have been mostly cosmetic. the new plastics are red, black and silver matching the tank. no cracks..no leaks..rear tire is on the worn side .. no biggie

blue books for just under $4,700

SOLD!

so i go and see her...2005 Suzuki GSXR 750 she says...adding 'its apart'

'aahh...HOW apart is it?'
'oh..no...not like that...he was in the process of adding parts but didn't finish'
oh... OH ... OK
i'll get to see it on sunday...letcha know how goes

oh yeah she's asking $2,500

oh yes... but..
this wasn't as easy as it sounds...i AM married and the pictures doesn't paint a very good picture of the potential there...but after some ... ah... NEGOTIATIONS... she gave me her blessing.

...negotiations my ass...i made concessions which means my 'honey-do' listings for the rest of the year are gonna be hell.

oh congrats on the MOTM!

Good to see someone pick up a nice deal.

I'm over on maui, keeping the hawaii member crew alive.

I've been looking for a fuel injected CBR600RR, possibly needing a rebuild -- but finding bikes in the islands is hard, especially for us on outlying islands. Oahu is a different story.

Out here, seems like bikes are for show. When enough money piles up, people buy bikes because they seem like a showy-flashy-look-at-how-cool-i-am toy. But they don't end up riding them much, or crash -- and then they sit.

We are also somewhat lacking in roads to let the machine open up, but 4am and good headlights usually do the trick.

It's not so bad on kauai as I recall from my time there, but tourists on the highways here on maui doing 1/10th the speed limit and taking pictures is really a drag. Nothing like the road to hana at 10mph behind a string of ten rental cars. PULL OVER I WANT TO PASS YOU.

Anyways, good find on the bike. Hope it turns out to be an easy fix and reassemble.

hey howzit tc
mahalo!

you are right on several points ...
when i decided to own another bike, (which is the 250 i have now), i had to put money aside on the chance that what i wanted may end up being off-island. re: Oahu.

See that here as well, and it seems that the 'cool-toy' crew has been falling off their machines more...though not fatal, still gives some people the impression that 'we're ALL like dat'!

i DID hear that maui's traffic scene is all...DAKINE..but make no mistake we've got our fair share of ... obstacles to overcome. this is what makes the 250 even more enjoyable...i may not be the fastest joe on the road, but when i DO wanna pass you..

I CAN

thanx again and keep an eye out for that CBR...
may be closer than ya think

Hawaii members woo hoo!

That's primarily I want a 600... for that passing gear.

On my usual somewhat-daily drive home from town going up the highway it's not uncommon for me to pin the bike in 6th gear and just roll up the hill tucked at 95-105mph (depending on the changes in highway grade..) More bike just equals = bigger ticket, but for the tight twisty roads it would help to have some more torque to accelerate from traffic speed to passing speed quickly to get around a slow tourist.

Anyways yeah.

dear diary.

BIG ISLAND!!
people ask me on the internet.. 'so where does someone from hawaii go on vacation?'

DA BIG ISLAND! has always been my answer.. why!?!

- cuz they gots roads there that stretch clear to the horizon (this is a big deal to people on an island in the middle of the ocean)
- cuz I gots scumb-bag biker buddies with built to the gills CB 1100 F model Honda cycles that breath and scream!
- cuz they gots roads there..
- cuz I gots lots of relatives there (mom & dad are from there)

damm you've created an itch that's gonna beg for scratch'in

Yeah that super ferry was a short lived deal.

You know so many use to come even using Young Bros for shipping.
Especially all the Harley groups from different Islands for Labor Day runs etc.
Because they could actually ride for hours without being tied up in traffic. Do their Hilo to Kona & back over a few days.
But then that too got so expensive I think less do it now.

yeah...i mean what HASN'T gone up you know!?!
i know that young bros. has these bike containers for shipping cycles inter-island...costs more but if memory serves me correctly you can put 3 mabye 4 bikes in one of these things...gots to lash them suckers down good though...and they have you secure the bikes YOURSELF.. and seal the door when pau.

...that said i'm sure THOSE are the things that are more expensive..

it just isn't so

being that I know the lady selling the bike for her son, she's allowed me to go get the bike before any kind of transaction has taken place...besides, she let me know the day previous that she'll have to get a power of attny from her son to sign over the bike...no biggie...it's not like i'm hitting the road any time soon..so its all good.

I go and pick up the bike last night with the help of a friend and his truck. the bike will go with him and i'll take the parts and boxes. got the bike home fairly late in the evening, and i'm finding places in my already stuffed garage to put everything....
I grab the new tail cowling and through the protective covering I can see...

600

a look at the manufacture's plate on the frame confirmed that the bike I have brought home is indeed a 2005 GSX-R 600

i wasn't disappointed, nor upset...nor angry...
i felt bad because i know this lady is going to feel horrible about this mistake.

the question of whether i STILL wanted the bike or not never entered my mind. this bike FOUND ME...i wasn't looking AT ALL, and for what i got, i'm still satisfied. if there is a bummer, its that the guys i work with are GSXR 600 owners and were foaming at the mouth cuz i gots the bigger bike..

NOT!

clean up and parts inventory starts after work today
