Scratch Remover
Folks.
There's a couple of minor scratches on the tank that keeps bugging me when I look at it from a certain angle. Do those automotive scratch removers (Nu Finish) work? Or is there a special touch up paint for motorcycles? |

I would recommend using a polish that says 'wax/cleaner" on the label. They contain mild abrasives that will remove fine scratches. Also be sure the label says "clear coat safe".

I've tried a couple and they didn't work. Live with them if you can or maybe try polishing or rubbing compound, but be careful as they may remove the clearcoat.

Meguires NXT Tech wax is pretty good for a good shine and hiding a few little scratches. It's by no means a repair but it helps.

and they don't remove scratches, some will hide small scratches though, or minimize the appearance of them. |

Meguire's scratchx will work as long as it's only clear coat. follow it up with a glaze and top wax and you should be fine.

Yes You can use rubbing compounds as long as the scratch is not through the paint. If it is through the clear coat, it will always be there, but can be less pronounced by buffing, if it is to the metal, then there is no hope unless you repaint.

I've had success on my car by taking a small paint brush, cutting back the brush some to make it smaller, and using touch up paint, applying it very carefully. If you take your time and do it right, it can be hidden very well. I actually "discovered" a few scratches on my car where someone rubbed against it (either a grocery kart or maybe even a car). So I need to work my magic once again.
Do the careful touch up and then buff it after...it can hide very well.

Yet another vote for Meguiars scratch X and NXT waxes
The big thing with meguiars though is to use one of their foam applicators or microfiber to work it. Claybarring also does wonders for paint jobs.
