where to buy rimtape

I've heard about rimtape for awhile, but after seeing several bikes (particularly kkim's, along with his DIY) and seeing how much better they look without fully black rims, I thought about doing something about it. But I'm not ready for taking the time or effort of stripping and polishing my rims, so I wanted to go with rimtape, at least for now.

But I can't seem to find it at any e-tailer. Is there another "official" name for it? Or do I have to go to a special e-tailer for it? I've checked sportbiketrackgear, motorcycle superstore, newenough, and a couple of others.

(Color I'm looking for is Galaxy Silver, or something thereabouts.)

Thanks!

Great thanks!

One more question. If they're straight pieces, won't they get bunched up (as shown below) when they're installed?

I believe the stripes come printed curved already in several different pieces. They lie flat when you apply them. I have not done them so I can't say with certainty.

Also, people have different widths of tape on their bike. If any bike strikes you as the one that you like, PM the owner of the bike and ask them where they got the tape on their bike. I little difference in width makes a big visual difference and it's a matter of personal taste how wide you want the stripe to be.

I have got Kawasaki Green on my bike (no pics up here of it as yet) it is just the standard one available from Kawasaki. Though this is really expensive... There are quite a few retailers on Ebay that sell rimtape.

The strips are curved, so they do not ripple when applied.

i think jpnfrk's strips were straight... but yeah, i would imagine it is so much easier when they are pre-curved. when i put my curved stripes on, i just used the wheel lip as a guide. came out pretty good except for one tiny section. too lazy to re-do that part.

They SHOULD come on a sheet in pre-curved sections. Make sure you get the stripes for an EX500 or 650r. If you get the tape for an EX250r they could be for the pre-'08 16" wheel setups. The auctions for the EX500 and 650R have the correct colors to match the bikes and are for the 17" wheels. If I remember correctly it takes 3 curved sections per wheel side so 12 total pieces.

I would also highly recommend doing it with the bike on a motorcycle stands. Trying to navigate the strips down instead of just spinning the wheel is a PITA!

the site i got mine from offered them in either 1/8" or 1/4". also, you had to specify the size of your front and rear tire. mine used 4 strips per side, so a total of 16 with 2 left over strips.

relatively expensive at $12.99 shipped for reflective tape, but i was really happy with their communication and the short shipping time. plus i was reassured by their 99.6% positive feedback based on nearly 5000 transactions. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/GLSigns-...__W0QQ_armrsZ1

Vex, I have an '05, so the 250 stripes should be fine for me. But good advice for others. Also good idea about the stands -- I'll definitely use that.

Gary, do you have some pics of your bike with the stripes? I was just thinking of going with tapeworks because they've been around for awhile and I've heard lots of good things, but if I get a great product at less than half the price, then why not!

Thanks all!

i don't have any pics yet. just one i was making sure that the reflectiveness worked.

oh most definitely. if you can get it cheaper... and you can... do it. i ordered mine on a weekend and i wanted to make sure i had it on my bike by the next weekend. if i wasn't in a rush, i would have gone with a cheaper company.

If this also helps, I got mine from eBay http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant...rmrsZ1QQ_fromZ. They come pre-curved already.

I got them in 17" in black for the new gen.
When exposed to headlights, they come out white/silver. The amount you get give you 4 extra pieces in case you mess up along the way

Going from black to silver is a nice touch! I got blue reflective and it's doing ok. I need to do a couple of touch-ups on the overlap areas this weekend, but other than that it's working great.

Yes, I know, not the best application job. But I like it!

So I ordered my rimtape off ebay a couple days ago. This is what I got in the mail. BTW i ordered it from http://stores.shop.ebay.com/GLSigns-...__W0QQ_armrsZ1.

I was expecting a little more. These are really thin. For anyone who already has these installed on their bike were yours this thin and flimsy? I will post a review and more pictures after I get me new Rear Stand!

those are the ones i have. even the "do not bend" is in the same handwriting. hehe. i don't know if i would describe them as "thin and flimsy", but i guess if they were too thick, they would not rest as flush to the rim.

Aren't they meant to be on the thin side? It shouldn't matter whether it looks flimsy, most Rim Tapes these days are said to last around 7 years.
