I need your Yamaha knowledge!

Hey,

I tend to browse Craigslist from time to time and today I came across a 2005 R1 Raven for 3400. I thought it was a joke, so I emailed found out the bike is real; the product of a divorce. According to the owner, it hasn't been down and has 9753 miles.

Your advice got me onto Ninjette, which I love. So I know you won't steer me wrong! I'm really considering this to buy low now and ultimately sell in the spring, but I don't know a lot about Yamahas or the R1. Does anyone own a Yamaha or speifically a 05 R1?? Is this a bike I could resell easily? What should I look for or any other questions I could ask the owner?

Personally I would scoop that up as long as it's in reasonable condition. I'm not sure I would call it a money maker because after all the titling fee's and such you may be closer to breaking even. If your not actually looking for that bike then I'd say leave it be. If the listing is more than a day or two old then it may be gone already. Someone will buy that up!

KBB says $4,200 in good condition. On second thought, there could be a little room in there to make some money.

Great price, bordering on suspiciously low. Make sure that there is a title and it's free & clear.

Go see the bike in person. Ads with little info are usually fake. Divorce claim makes it even more suspicious.

its not too far out of the realm of possibility. craigslist ad is down but i've seen older R1s sell for that price. they probably left out something important though. like that its been totalled

Well, its been flagged for removal, so obviously something was fishy about that deal.

Could just mean other viewers were also paranoid and flagged it thinking it was a scam... The world may never know
