Original rear tire-how many miles?

I'm just curious as to how many miles you got out of the stock rear tire. And what kind of tire did you replace it with?

8K then I went to the Bridgestone BT45. Got 11K out of the front. Now on my 600 the tires are looking like junk at 4700 miles.

dunlop gt-501's - 11,600 - they were really squared off from all the highway commuting i do. changed to bridgestone bt-45's in 140/70 - have about 4k on the "new" tire, very happy with the change.

Mine were stock IRC's. The rear was replaced @ 10,099 miles. The front was replaced @ 10,405 miles. Replaced them with Continental Conti Gos 110/70 & 130/70. You can see my review in the ninjettewiki.

4k on mine, and it was past the wear bars (GT-501). Replaced it with Sport Demons, and get about the same mileage (3k - 4k on rear, 5k - 6k on front).

5500 miles on the bridgestones that were on the bike when I got it at 1k miles. Still lots of meat left in the tread but Ive been using the bike for a commuter.

Dunlop 501's - changed both at 14K miles. The front was gone but the rear could have gone for a little bit more. I have Michelin Pilots, 110 & 140 on the bike now and love them.

My stock 501s had 9500 on them when I got rid of the bike, and there was still a decent amount of rubber before the wear bars.

My stock rear was just about done when I replaced them at maybe 6000-6500 miles, but it was largely squared off from the commute. The front had a good amount of tread left, but had cracks on the sidewall so I replaced that at the same time.

How is that possible?! Normally, the rear always wears faster than the front, which is one reason why they are made thicker. I got half as many miles as you and needed to change them but I pushed 'em 'til they were dangerously bald at around 9,500 miles. I literally only had tread when I leaned! My front was still good and I swapped it at 12K miles when I realized that the left side was balding. Even though I knew that the left will wear faster because we take wider left turns in, I always looked at the right because I'd have to bend over farther to see the left and never considered that it would be that dramatic of a difference (right side looked almost new but with a little cupping).

Riding style. A lot of front brake coupled with gentle acceleration can over time allow rear tires to last as long or even longer than front tires. But generally, that's a rarity.

Yep. Forgot to mention my front tire was feathering considerably and I don't use the rear brake as much as i should.

Mine came with the IRC, the rear lasted about 5,000mi I replaced it when the belts were exposed all the way around. I replaced it with a BT016 and now I am at 10,000mi and the rear is a bit more than halfway worn, the stock front is still going strong, probably a bit less than half its life remaining as well.

I'm still a bit confused about why my stock rear wore out so quickly. I have a feeling it was because I was commuting every day on it, 50mi of boring straight roads daily probably done it in. It was pretty much squared off @ 2,000mi. I have not done much commuting since I replaced the rear, and it still looks fine with more miles on it than the stock rear lasted.

IRC rear/front replaced at 4800 miles with Bt-016s...150X60X17 and 110X70X17. The rear was worn flat and the front was still in perfect shape. Replaced both as I didn't want to mix bias and radial tires! Only 200 miles on the new ones.

Bill, I got 12K out of both GT-501s. Of coursr I ride like an old man most of the time--and then the temptation arises in the twisties. Totally irresistable if there is another bike doing them. A Ninjette can really boost your ego in the twisties. If my back heals properly, I may just find a Ninjette that I can have in addition to the Honda. Fun factor on the Ninjette is totally off the scale.

8k on rear.. front looked great but went ahead and put a new one on since I was changing to a different type of tire.. I'm using ContiGo 110 - 130/70 now. I had to replace the rear on the conti's at about another 9k and it wasn't all the way gone... I had a huge chunk of metal stuck all the way thru the tire and it was still holding air.. LOL so lucky... Front Conti looks almost new and I've put about 12k miles on it....

I have 5,500 on mine, and it still looks new!? I will replace it next spring though. Both my tires have cracks in them. Not to sure why.

I got 10,000 on my stock BT-45's. Then I replaced them with another set of BT-45's. I put another 10,000 miles on them before I sold the bike. I was nice enough to provide a new set of tires (BT-45) with the bike to the new owner as the old ones were bald.
