Help me identify this headlight mod

I was browsing this forum looking for mod ideas for my pregen, and I came across this picture.

Does anyone recognize what was used to give the headlight this look? It looks like some sort of film / tape over it?

DIY, write-ups, links to specific products welcome! Thanks!

The pic comes from a for-sale ad that has been up for years. IIRC, I emailed the guy and he said it was just black tape with mesh over it. He never got back to me about the mesh or the tape (I had concerns about it melting). Anyway, I made a thread about it. Lemme look it up real quick...

The look only works on a black bike. The smoke double-bubble looks a heck of a lot better on a black bike too (windscreen connected to boxy headlight with no fairing in between makes it too obvious on non-black bikes). My thread has ideas for other colors as well.

Go with HID's and use vinyl to make cool shapes that also control glare!

I'm doing a projector retrofit, I'll take pictures of that once I'm done. It's going to have LED's in it.

Just wait until I get it installed and take some pictures of it. You'll be sold. I have a spare headlight apart and retrofitted with a projector right now in my dorm room. I'll get everything installed and finished up over thanksgiving break, and I'll do some wiring work with the LED's in the spring. It's going to look sweet.
