Off to the races!

Hi all,

So, I've been doing track days for about 3 years now (riding for 8) and finally decided I wanted to bite the bullet and go racing. But I also decided my SV650 was a bit bigger bike than I wanted to take a chance crashing on (again). I'm also excited about the chance to hit kart tracks for a bit of extra track time. I'd rented a 250 a time or two and had a ball, so I did a little looking around and was able to trade my SV for a Ninja 300! It's currently in street trim, and if there's interest, I'm planning on doing a build log for the transformation into a race bike.

For the street, I've got my sweet-ass Triumph Bonneville that's been cafe'd to the point it's only got a few stock bits left. I like to call her the Bonnezillah. That won't be going anywhere any time soon .

Can't upload pics on my work computer... I'll try to get some up at home in the morning.

Yeah. PNWMoto and track days/flagging with WMRRA/OMRRA. I don't think I've ever introduced myself in the paddock, but I've watched you buzzing around on that lovely vintage machine. I just did NRS with OMRRA last weekend. State the bike's in, I'm a bit doubtful about racing in Sept. It'd need safety wiring/belly pan and basic suspension upgrades at a bare minimum. If I really bust my butt and run up my credit card, I could make it out in non-competitive trim. More likely, I'll sort the suspension and get it good enough for track days and do a familiarization run in Sept. and maybe race at Mac Track in Oct. Work on everything over the winter. Then in spring re-do NRS with whoever I'm closer to and shoot for a fairly full schedule next year.

Damn if I don't sound like KTM/Aprilia/Suzuki getting back into MotoGP. But for a guy with a tiny storage shed and hand tools, converting a stock bike into a race machine solo isn't so different a project.

Ok, figured out a work-around to post pics from work.

The bike as I traded for it. Actually a hybrid of two totaled bikes plus some eBay parts and Chinese bodywork. Pretty much stock except the builder pulled the California canister and put in "thicker fork oil."

I'll see if I can get the build thread going tonight.

Pics of the Bonnezillah and the Ninja getting torn down. Somehow, it feels like the Bonnie is telling the new bike "It'll be OK, you'll look cool again."
