Redirection Pages - Love 'em or leave 'em?

The forum software we use here at ninjette.org has the option for displaying redirection pages. These are the pages that show up when you enter a post, send a PM, do a search, and some other activities. They provide quick confirmation that the site is doing something, before bringing up what you actually asked for. I think they can help when the request takes a few seconds, as users with slower connections or computers may not be sure that their request is being handled. Here's an example redirection page:

As of right now, I've turned them off based on a user request, and will leave them off for awhile. In terms of forum speed, leaving them off does help things slightly. Anyway, cast your vote on whether you want them back or are happier with them off, and I'm comfortable going either way depending on this community's preference.

We can leave them off as a test, but I'm used to seeing this from using other sites. The problem is when the server slows down (not a problem with this site... yet. )... you are left wondering what 's happening and will often times double post.

Like I said, here it hasn't been a problem, so I think we should leave it off for awhile to see.

Are they causing a problem for the user that requested it that I'm not seeing?

So, based on that, what should I mark in the poll ... yes or no?

Far as I know, no, it's just a preference of that user.

Mark what you want right now. We can always change our minds later as conditions warrant.

Just me being picky. Too bad it's not a user preference...

I find it takes more time to load 2 pages rather than just wait for the one I requested. I prefer to not have them.

We've had a couple double posts since they've been removed, but nothing too bad yet. I think that Kkim's advice is probably correct; we can leave them off for now, but as the board gets more and more traffic, it may be necessary to turn them back on to avoid issues. But that could be quite awhile away.

Well, we're starting to see quite a few more double-posts. Unfortunately not a surprise as the forum traffic grows. At this point I don't see an absolute need to put these redirection pages back, but if performance degrades a little more I might not have a choice. All I'd suggest in the meantime is that if you're sure you clicked the "submit reply" button, yet nothing happened immediately, give it just a second or two before you click it again. Nothing terrible will happen if you do (don't worry, you can't break anything! ), it's just that it might pop up a second identical post (which some of you have likely realized already, as I'm seeing more and more self-deleted double posts).
