MotoGP 250cc

I just started watching the 2008 season and it's EXTREMELY entertaining!
Just maybe more than 800cc bikes.

I know this is probably really old news to some of you.

LOL! MOTOGP is the best sport ever invented! They are coming back to Indy... I think that's closer to you than CA (the other American track they race at is Laguna Seca), no? You should get tickets to check out the races. Those bikes are crazy LOUD and fast!!

No. The pit passes are really expensive. I did buy Phil a parade pass. That was good to take his motorcycle out on the track for a parade 'lap' between one of the breaks... But he broke his bike.. ><'

We've been to Laguna for the GP every year they've been here (since 2005). They used to come in the early 90's but stopped for quite awhile. The race last year was simply incredible, watching Stoner pass Rossi only to have Rossi pass him right back while riding a clearly slower machine. We've got our tickets and will be there again this year, hope some other ninjette folks can come as well!

I just bought our www.motogp.com subscription for the 2009 season. They broadcast the races live with no commercials. Most races are at 5 AM local time on the west coast, so we set the alarm for 4:45, crawl out of bed and hide under the blankets on our couch to fire up the big screen for the race. Race is over by 5:50, quick shower and suit up to be out of the house by 7 AM for the standard Sunday Morning ride up in Marin. The trick is to keep the speeds quasi-legal on the public roads after being all amped up from watching the motogp folks.

I wish the 125's and 250's would come to Laguna as well; they do make the trek to the Indy round. This year the AMA classes are up in the air for Laguna, so there's actually some hope that will allow Dorna to run at least the 250's (in addition to the MotoGP 800cc class).

The pit passes are pretty good, but I wish they allowed the garage walk with 'em; for those you need the VIP tix that are not only reasonably pricey, but also not trivial to get even if you want to spend the cash. But with the pit passes you can still get pretty close to the riders and get pics/sigs etc:

Annie even went when she was 7 months pregnant one year!

I may have a couple of ticket packages for this year's MotoGP weekend to sell as the date gets closer; if they aren't already spoken for I'll post them up here as well.

Someone's gotta take the pics! For some reason we've found that Ann has more success convincing the riders to snap pictures with her.

If anyone wants to be a real pretend racer, Skip Barber (the race car school) is openning a bike school and has a school running at Laguna on the MotoGP weekend (not during the race).

The Skip Barber class looks to be a good one, but it's quite expensive (I heard $2500 for 2 days). You can get on Laguna Seca for a heck of alot less than that for a trackday. Here's me as a pretend racer on the corkscrew, yellow ninja:

The guy on the blue & yellow cbr right at the top of the corkscrew is Doug Chandler, who was past me a few microseconds after this picture.

The corkscrew, the most famous turn in America. I remember it well. How can I forget, I broke my arm. Actually only a chip but it was good enough for free drinks on the flight home.

I remember Kenny Roberts wheeling throught it, f...ing showoff. I unfortunately remember Bubba Shobert getting rear ended as he was doing a burnout after a race. Rossi passing Stoner was my all time favorite corkscrew action.

I raced the old track, never been on the new track, it must be about time to try it though. I took a fifth there back in the old days when it was so crazy you held it full on down the front straight which turned into a left sweeper all the way until you started going up the hill where turn 5 is today (there was no Andretti hairpin or the new turns 2, 3, and 4).

Trackdays would be fun but to get my bikes from FL to CA would cost me more than taking the school (although I would do Keith Code's school rather than Skip Barber's).

It was so long ago I'm not sure if you could call it professional (atleast not by today's standards). I raced AAMRR, WERA, CCS, and AMA in the 80s.

That go cart wizard is none other than, "Old Guyz Rule", Eddie Lawson. He had a brief career with motorcycles. I'm not sure how fast the carts go at Laguna but here in Daytona (where they race on the big track every December) they have been known to get close to the 160mph mark (twin engine shifter carts).

Go carts (or Karts) had been known to have the track record at smaller tracks. When I first started racing at Loudon carts were the fastest there.

Alex we would go to Laguna during the Kenny Robert's, Randy Mamola( my all time hero.) in the 80's when you could bring your camper or van or just tent for about 10 dollars a night. When we were young and spry and ran from corner to corner. Man that was fun!! great pics of you at the raceway....

I think the 250's were just starting to get popular in racing here then. remember the 250 class races were more squirrley.

CC we were there I believe. I remember that happening right in front of us. It wasted a good high that is for sure. He was rear ended by a rookie I think.. Stuff happens: so that means we watched you race!!

CC I was wrong we watched Rainey get rear ended not Bubba it was a few years eariler. Bubba was rearended in *89? right. So I guess we did not see you race

Rainey had just won and had slowed down to get off the track and he was taken out from behind.

I had to call TR to get the riders right. It was that time you know where we cultivated our short term memories... HA ah those days
