It is strange that right at that moment, it says that there are no new posts, but the top right shows 2 new ones. Those two queries are separate, so it's possible that that 2 had just been posted. When you hit the "unread posts" link right afterwards, did those two show up?

Yep, it is perpetually stuck like that and it annoys me to no end. It's like on my iphone when those little red badges pop up, I mean you just have to click them and get it sorted out.
