Shimming will be necessary. Removing the snorkel will allow more air in on the bottom range of RPM's. Generally our bikes are already lean there and removing the snorkel will only intensify the effect.
I believe it is agreed that anyone who has shimmed has loved the results. I highly recommend it.

Wouldn't the "intake cap" be the same thing...

yes it would, but I believe you will need to do some work to keep the filter in place as that cap helps to position the filter in the pregen's airbox... is that correct jinx?

cool... how about taking some pics for a DIY when you do it?
shimming will make the bike easier to ride w/o the snorkel as removing it leans out the bike even more. |

Is there another option? Won't the coat hanger rust away?

Couldn't you just cut the two tubes on the airbox lid flush with the rest of the top? the tubes create restriction because the air has to be sucked thru and forced into the tube... i think... so if you took length off the tube, you could have the same size hole with less restriction and more flow. Right?
I've been thinking about doing this for a while, but idk how much more air my system can handle without rejetting, and if I rejet, I might as well just do pods, as they're tons easier to remove the carbs and lighter as well. |

mine in my 05 never rusted when i put my muzzy/jet kit/snorkle removal. i put 15k on that bike...never was a issue. i guess the frame would rust too?
i ended up going to pods after the 15k, never looked back (sold the bike with 22k miles on it.) |

Why not just go with a K&N Drop in filter?

From what I can tell, the K&N drop-in filter flows more by letting in more dirt.
