Random tube sticking out of bottom

Hey All, I noticed a random black tube sticking out the bottom of my bike. Here are some pics. Any ideas what it is?

Thanks

i think thats a vent tube from your fuel tank. if it gets tipped or overfilled it will drain fuel until its righted. just rejetted the other day and i had some run out while i had the tank tipped... looks the same and is in the same spot as mine....

Yeah, that's the breather line for the gas tank. Mine is ridiculously long too. I've been planning on cutting it a bit short, and cutting the end in half a bit. I've been told that motocross riders do this to keep dirt from clogging it up. There's enough dust here in NM that I think this might be a good idea.

You're probably going to have to cut it short anyway. I noticed at around 8000 miles that the hose had been slowly tearing at the nipple where it vents from the gas tank. It was falling apart so I cut off a section and stuck it back on. I expect I'll have to do this again in the future.

Then again, what was causing it to tear? Probably all that flapping around in the wind at the other end...

Good point. I was planning on cutting mine down but I might need the extra in the future if it needs to be cut at the other end.

Actually, this thread is making me a bit squeamish, maybe time to move on.
