7500 mile maintenance!

Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone has done teh 7500 mile maintenence yet, and if you did, how much time did it take you, what was the degree of difficulty, and what special tools did you need?

I'm nearing 7500 so I'll probably try to do this myself once the semester is over. I called a Kawasaki dealership and they said it would cost about $290... thats alot

actually, that's not too bad. The 7,500 mile service requires the valves to be checked/adjusted. If it included adjusting the valves as well as the other stuff needed at 7.5k, that's a bargain.

are you capable of checking/adjusting the valves yourself?

here's a few better than a manual... you be the judge if you are capable of doing these.

wow those DIYs are intense. they look so complicated... man i wish i knew more about motors.. i don't think i'll be able to do that myself, maybe i can get my mechanic friend to help albiet he's an auto mechanic. if not i guess i'll have to find $290. I think if i had more confidence that i wouldn't damage anything, i'd do it myself ..

while not that hard, you should know what you're doing and why, as screwing something up while you are in there could have some pretty far reaching negative consequences.

add to that the shims you need, if it does need adjusting, and removing the cams and retiming the bike, you better be absolutely sure what you are doing is correct.

when the time comes, I'm seriously thinking of having someone else adjust the valves if I need it, provided I can find a competent mechanic in my area.

Yeah I guess it's better that i'm safe than sorry. I might be able to do some of the maintenence, like air filter, carb synch etc.. so maybe i'll save some money and leave the complicated part to kawasaki

kkim, you can do this! Vex's DIY is superb and I'm sure you have the experience, so this shouldn't be a problem. Measure twice, cut once! Or, to put it another way...definitely take pictures from all angles, before you remove the cams and gears.

When it's time for you to do it, let me know and I will encourage you at that time...again!!

lol... thanks. I'll need to get to 7,500 miles first! At my present rate, it may take a few years.

Considering Kauai is only about 200 miles for the entire loop, that is a lot of laps. haha
