09 Ninja 250 Choke and Throttle ?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first. I've had for three months.
My concern is when I brake, even light braking and am in 1st gear or in neutral the bike stalls if I remove my hand from the throttle.
I constantly have to keep the bike slightly revd to keep it from stalling.
I've adjusted the idle but the same problem.
Whether I'm riding for 10 min or 2 hrs same problem.
To start the bike the choke needs to be on full whether the bike is cold or warm, and I need to ride off before taking the choke off.
If I try taking the choke off while stationary, the bike will die.
Since I got the bike I had thought it was me as a new rider that was the problem but I think it is the bike.
I was looking through the DIY but am unsure which pertains to this issue.
Stalling in traffic can be quite scary and dangerous.
Please offer suggestions if you can.
Thanks.

welcome to ninjette.... Kelly will probably be on soon, it's only 6 am out in HI, but he will likely be able to help you!

I know the mixture screws of these bikes are set to sip fuel, but that sounds extreme.

After the bike is fully warmed up, what are the RPMs at idle? The idle screw should be set so that it is ~1500. I have mine set at ~1800 because I'm a victim of the faulty CDI debacle.

yes, make sure the bike is fully warmed up (10-15minutes of riding), then set the idle speed to 1500 rpm (make sure the choke is off) using the black knob on the left side of the bike. check your owner's manual for location.
