Nothing more cooler than going retro with a leather helmet and one with a tranny in a green bikini burning him/her self on top of a giant fire

Wearing a beanie cruiser helmet with the Grim Reaper also means you're cool and that you care about safety since it's DOT approved

For myself, I'd go with the Rossi helmet. Look ma... no hands!

AGV has some pretty cool graphics.

The Icon Variant is, in my opinion, the coolest looking helmet by design though. I may look into that one when I get a replacement helmet for my wrecked Shoei. It's Downshift83's fault that I even recognise a Variant when I see it.

I just posted this in the Oahu thread. I've been searching and searching for the perfect helmet for me. It's the same Scorpion EXO-500 Oil one from above but it's the Neon one. I want a Hi-viz helmet with the drop down internal visor. Plus the easy shield switch is a plus. It also has an air pump system inside for a more customized fit. LOVE IT!!! Now I just gotta wait for it to come out.

Oh...the lining is camo too.

This is what i wear. Its a SparX S-07 Hornet Special Edition, DOT & ECE 22.05 certified.

I ride a green ninja and deliberately picked up this yellow one in contrast to the green since its high on visibility. Initially i did not fancy the graphics much but then it grew on me and i love it.

Cost me shade below US $ 200 here in India. Bought from an importer and hence paid a premium for it. Thats the way it is for all imported (and good quality) gear.

That's pretty cool! The Scorpion one I want has the same thing in the cheek pads. Is it like normal glow in the dark stuff? If it's not in some kind of light first does it not work?

Edit-I like how it says on the internal sun visor, "daytime use only". funny

they say it takes a minimum of 20 mins to fully charge or something but i dont know how long it takes to fully charge lol but when i was in the shop they showed me one and it had been out the box about 1 minute and i went into a dark room and i could already see it glowing really well but yeah it has to be in light for some amount of time.

i'll do a review of my gear soon because I've got some new leather trousers and some new gloves coming soon hopefully the trousers will be coming with the helmet just waiting for it to be shipped to the country as it only just came out

I think on youtube there is a guy who does stuff like that with his helmet but he uses a thin strip of light dont know what type of light but its flexible... means he can get the pattern of his choice with it but dont know if you would get away with having them on the helmet with the law... would defiantly get you noticed

Heres the video i mentioned just found it and think he has a few on there

Random question about helmets....the helmet I want is DOT and ECC approved. Since it's not SNELL approved is that not good? Should I look at a different one?

mine is only DOT.

SNELL is beyond what is "necessary" but its always good to have.

ECE 22.05 is a good certification just like SNELL is. If you do some research you'll find that the testing for ECE certification is pretty stringent and thorough. ECE is the standard for most of Europe while in North America, it's DOT + SNELL. I wouldn't disregard a helmet because it lacks either the ECE or SNELL sticker. As long as it has one or the other. Go with the helmet that fits your head best and according to your budget and tastes.

Yeah....ECE, that's what I meant. Thanks for the heads up. I knew it was a Europe thing but wasn't sure how it all worked. I remember when I bought my Wolverine 450 the sales guy said I had to get a DOT & SNELL helmet. Probably cause the cost more...?

Yup, he was probably seeing $$ signs and playing "For the Love of Money" by The O'Jays in his head. SNELL is voluntary certification so companies have to pay big bucks to have their helmets tested by a SNELL certified lab. Usually that cost is passed back onto the consumer and companies know that many consumers specifically look for that SNELL sticker when they buy a new bucket. DOT is self-certification so helmet manufacturers do the testing in-house according to the published government specifications. They don't have to usually pay an independent lab to do the testing.

There is a detailed description of these processes in the NinjetteWiki Helmet Page.

The DOT certification is, in itself, a fine standard. But DOT allows companies to self-certify. This results in mass cheating about the testing and standard, making it close to worthless in anything but the most reputable brands. In random testing by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, 40% of all helmets claiming DOT certification fail, and do not actually meet the DOT standards.

Snell, on the other hand, actually tests each helmet themselves, guaranteeing safe design. ECE's enforcement is even better. While Snell certification requires approval from initial model runs, but no follow up, ECE 22.05 certification requires mandatory sample testing of every production run of helmets before they leave the factory.

Still, I'm partial to Snell. Since Snell came out with its new 2010 standard, any helmet that has a Snell 2010 certification will also pass both ECE and DOT tests. The goal of Snell 2010 was to marry the best of both and allow helmet manufactures to target a single standard (theirs) and be safe worldwide. The same transferability can't be said for DOT or ECE helmets, each of which might not pass Snell testing.

Will any vinyl wrap work or would you have to get one for helmets due to the roundness of it? Do you have a good source that has a good selection?

this way you can easily put your username and a reference to ninjette.org on your helmet as part of a larger design.
Yeah, I could do it if I really wanted to. Check out this video. Funny that they use the easiest helmet to cover.

I guess that is one way with a lot of wasted product and much harder to center. Look at the reaper or fighter jet designs above. You want those fairly symmetrical or it will just look stupid. Randomly pressing into a barrel like that will more likely result in an offset wrap. That vinyl also did not appear to have an adhesive backing like the vehicle wraps do.

BTW those heat guns are $25 at your favorite big box home improvement stores and they are handy (its how I made part of my prosthesis).
yeah, he mentioned to put a halogen light at the bottom of the barrel to "help" center the pic if you have one. I have a heat gun I bought for my power wheel mods I do. Get for taking stickers off.

Haven't seen this one mentioned yet. Flows more air than any uber expensive helmet I've ever owned and is reasonably quiet. Web Bike World's Helmet of the year in 2007.

Kali Naza Carbon. Amazing value and safety features in one of the lightest helmets on the market. Cool liberty graphics that look even better in person. American, boutique helmet maker. Internal shape is a bit round, though . . .

Does anyone else have any trouble finding a Scorpion helmet that fits their head size? I know different styles of helmets are made for different head shapes but I tried to put on a 3XL Scorpion helmet and no matter how hard I tried it was a frivolous effort. I couldn't even get it halfway on, it felt so small. It's a shame because I like the features of the Scorpions a lot. I ended up getting a cheap AFX helmet because it was the only one I could find that would fit my head size. It's the largest size that AFX offers, too
