Mirror Extenders - Finally I can See!

Just a note to those looking at options for replacing the crappy stock mirrors. Some have gone with 650 mirrors, others have gone with the mirror extenders, I have done both. Couldn't be happier. As you can see from the photos below the image of the car behind me is clear in either mirror. That car is about 40 feet behind me for reference. I have the mirrors angled to give a complete rear view and I still have a relatively wide side view as well.

I bought the mirror extenders off ebay seller is rrbarna...they cost $43.

These: http://www.ebay.com/itm/08-11-Kawasa...65a996&vxp=mtr

I believe there is a DIY for replacing the mirrors. Shame on my for not doing a full DIY. But it was a relatively easy install. I didn't take off the fairings, just removed the windshield and the screws securing the dash. Reaching through the front (where the windshield would block) and bending the nose piece gently allowed me to barely fit a wrench to loosen the nuts holding the mirror base in place. WARNING: when loosing those nuts go very slowing because if they fall into the nose piece you will have to remove it to retrieve unless you have the same nuts handy. I loosened with a wrench and did the rest with my had while having a magnetic retriever in place in case I dropped it.

I'm happy to walk anyone through it if need be.

I bought the same mirror extenders and they are perfect! - http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...der+killermase

I feel much safer on my bike with the extenders. And they look GREAT. All those DIY extenders are fine, but they are flat out UGLY.

Do these extenders from ebay cause more vibration to go through the mirrors?

Slightly more, but I don't have any noticeable image distortion. Cars behind me are still very sharp and I have no issue with the vibration at all It is not at all bothersome and highly recommended. I have the 650 mirrors which have a longer stem so if you keep the 250 mirror I don't you would notice any difference.

Are those an old style 650 mirror or the Chinese knockoff? I thought all the new
650 stock mirrors were the teardrop shape. but I am probably wrong if they come in different flavors...

I forgot which year they are, but I got them from denniskirk.com I like that that are the more traditional shape because I felt like the teardrop shape causes you to lose some mirrored surface area.

I think those things look goofy. I would rather just turn my head to see what's behind me.

Then again, I ride a pregen. Those aren't exactly winning any awards in the looks category...

lol...those of us who aren't little green amphibians have spinal columns which prevent the old 180 degree neck turn.

Plus I have like a 2" neck so the collar on my jacket really limits my head turn. Just imagine resting you helmet on the floor - thats what it looks like on my shoulders.
