Weird Cold Starting Idle

So when I warm up my bike in neutral, I apply a little choke to assist in the warming up of the bike. However, when I crank the bars to the left, the RPMs increase about 1000. If I straighten the bars, the idle goes back down 1000RPM. When I do it to the right, the RPMs stay constant and no change happens.

I dont know why the RPMs would increase when I crank the bars to the left. Any ideas?

Turning the bars is tugging either the throttle cable or the choke cable. Neither are a good thing, but the choke cable probably wouldn't matter as much compared to a misrouted throttle. Readjust them both until you can move the bars at full lock in either direction without the idle changing at all.

lol...I have the EXACT same condition. I have made a mental note to check the choke cable for any slack/deformity, the next time I removed the tank, which should be this week (shimming). It doesn't bother me that much though.
On a related note though...I thought I had convinced you to NOT warmup the engine @ idle, me very disappointed in you boy

Ok sweet, I will definitely check it out. I didnt know if maybe my fuel line was getting pinched or something weird.

haha, I dont remember anyone saying that but I have read that idling in neutral with the choke for a minute or two is good to get the oil flowing throughout the entire engine. I have been doing this for only cold starts. What is the reason for not doing this?

Using the choke puts the engine under a load right? The main point of that answer is that the bike warms up when the engine is under load. I warm it up with the choke engaged for a minute and then drive off. I do not idle (without choke) to warm up the bike.

No, you'd have to be moving for the engine to be under load. The choke just enrichens the mixture (gas/air) in the carbs for easy starting during cold temps.

Same thing happened to mine but it was when i turned it all the way right. When i got around to shimming my needles and stripped her naked, i located the problem, and just rerouted the cables so i could completly turn the wheel both ways without it doing what you said. No biggie!
