[American Motorcyclist Association] - Wayne National Forest announces temporary trail
The following is an industry press release...
NELSONVILLE, Ohio (August 1, 2014) – The Wayne National Forest Athens Ranger District announces plans to start replacing twelve bridges on the Monday Creek Off-highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail System in the Dorr Run area in Hocking County. Trail riders can expect some closures with reroutes starting early August and continue through the end of the trail riding season. Depending on weather conditions, the first section of trail system to be closed is identified as the Bowl Trail, located between intersection 75 (Company Road/Bowl Trail) and intersection 53 (Paramount Loop North/Bowl Trail). The trail is expected to be closed starting Monday, August 4th until Friday, August 15th, 2014. Once completed, the second phase of the bridge replacement project will begin on the northern portion of Dorr Run Loop. The area is scheduled to be closed from intersection 42 (Door Run Loop/Timber Road Trail) to intersection 43 (Dorr Run Loop/Dorr Run Short Connector). The trail is expected to be closed starting Monday, August 18th until Friday, September 12th, 2014. Riders are reminded that Paramount Loop North is currently closed, and will remain closed until the bridge is replaced. Closure and reroute maps are posted on the Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/wayne and at the Monday Creek OHV Trailheads. For more information, call (740) 753-0101. Additional closures will be announced as work progresses. Funding for this project came from the U.S. Forest Service and the Federal Highway Administration Recreation Trails Program. The U.S. Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a mission of sustaining the health, diversity and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The Forest Service’s Eastern Region includes twenty states in the Midwest and East, stretching from Maine, to Maryland, to Missouri, to Minnesota. There are 17 national forests and one national tallgrass prairie in the Eastern Region. For more information, visit www.fs.usda.gov/R9. The U.S. Forest Service manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world. Public lands the Forest Service manages contribute more than $13 billion to the economy each year through visitor spending alone. Those same lands provide 20 percent of the nation’s clean water supply, a value estimated at $7.2 billion per year. The agency has either a direct or indirect role in stewardship of about 80 percent of the 850 million forested acres within the U.S., of which 100 million acres are urban forests where most Americans live.
