I have that kit and also have a gap at the top but i need to spend some time re-adjusting it. Did yours include the plastic pieces? I didn't install those, they looked like crap. Pretty dissapointed in the whole thing really. The license plate light they included lasted me maybe a month.
Post some pics of yours. |

It's a poorly designed fender eliminator. I have the same problem with mine and in fact i just was digging around in my bike this afternoon installing a BikeLitez taillight and noticed that there was that exact gap of which you speak. There doesnt seem to be anything you can do about it except maybe add more velcro to secure it, but that doesnt work all that well either. Fortunately, the rear cowl covers up that entire area, making it a moot point.
If I had it to do over again I would probably try the new Yoshimura eliminator as it looks like a much higher quality design. The Targa eliminator is basically a cheap piece of poorly designed crap.

I saw this issue with the Targas, so I bought the Evotech kit instead. Well machined, much better fit. Still a bit of a gap, but tolerances are tighter than the Targa and looks good.

I recently found my tail light seemingly "pushed down" with a large gap on the top with my unmodified fender. I messed with it a little and figured it must have always been like that and I just never noticed. A week later I looked closer and realized that there was a rubberized tab that needed to fit into the top of the brake light housing. I had to push it down and in then lift and pull it back, if I recall correctly. There's still a gap, but it's much better.
