my expedition with an 08 wheel on a pregen

so..after a long search..no1 had pics or any applausable help..

here are pics and real reasons why the 08 wheel doesnt fit the pregen swingarm. doesnt bother me though cuz i orderd the 08 swing arm/caliper and bracket. i jus wanted to know why it doesnt fit...
this is more for you budget guys not you fancy fairing perfectionists.

my 2004 wheel/tire wheighed 33lbs

the 2008 wheel and tire weighed 31lbs. both had brand new tires.
oddly enough they have the same wheel design. one is a 16" one is 17" though.

my 08 wheel came with jus the rotor, no hub or rubber thing.
the pregen rubber dealy and hub fits into the 08 wheel.

hubs are the same minus the 08 wheel is wider on the side. thats where it is wider. as you can see 08 wheel on the right

same caliper can be used

pregen axle bolt works jus fine

HERES THE DIFFERENCE

you would have to grind about 10mm off the inside of the caliper bracket to fit the caliper. or jus buy the 08 caliper bracket. calipers have the same bolt pattern. the pregen bracket hold the calipers at a dif angle(back) the newer bracket holds teh caliper forward.

the bottom of the caliper bracket the outside of it could be grinded down a few mm also to fit the chain tensioners

and sprocket side, the spacer could be grinded down to fit in the chain tensioner as well

without the chain tensioner and caliper the wheel fits perfect..except
grind the hub spacer and caliper bracket and you can fit the chain tensioners and caliper. non of that grinding/milling would take away rigidity from my guess.
i paid $150shpd for my 08 wheel with a brand new perelli tire on it
and $40shpd for the swing arm
$30for the caliper and bracket

il compare side by side the swingarms and weigh them also. which swing arm will be in the mail today

08 ninja axle bolt is 3" longer. cant use pregen axle bolt with new swing arm.
calipers are identical but the bracket locates them in different spots.
heres the pregen axle bolt in...too short.

pregen swing arm weighed 16lbs.
new one weighed 17lbs
also where the dog bones connect to swing arm you need the 08 bolt for that. the pregen uses 2 short bolts. the 08 uses 1 long bolt.

UPDATE: AND PROBLEM.
my bike is an 04. with 08 ninja 250 swingarm and wheel thought it would sit normal.
i have an ex500 spring. the bike is very very low.

i had the ex500 dogbones on it. the rear bar almost touched the tire.
so i put on the my vortex lowering links which were a tad shorter. it raised a tad but still low.
then i put the stock ex250 dogbones back on it. its still low but not as low as with the 500 or vortex bones.
the real problem is that there is no spring rebound, its hard as a rock. its torture on the spine on the road..
i could say that the bolts could jus have been to tight..but why still so low?
the 08 and pregen springs are within 2mm of length so i dont need an 08 spring. what about the 08 dogbones? are they alot shorter?....
heres teh bike, super low.
i really like it but its hard as a rock and the front shakes super easy....

I know I responded in your other thread as well, but this reminded me.

The 500 shock is shorter. Switch back to the 250 shock, or get an 08-12 shock.

Thanks for this info! I was going to swap the swingarm, but I have a 500 shock too. I'll make sure to grab a newgen 250 shock.

I thought the dogbones had to be from the bike the swingarm was from because they didn't swap on their own? Anyway, I'm planning to install Rexbo's shorter dogbones on my pregen with newgen swingarm, but it sits plenty high enough with the newgen dogbones. I just want to make sure I have clearance for the hugger I want in there.

Sweet info.

I am having trouble putting the rear new gen wheel on the new gen rear swing arm.
I have the spacers from the pregen and then the caliper which goes along the rear axle its seems a tight fit.

From right to left....

Axle bolt .. through right swing arm.. through caliper hole... through spacer with wedge then wheel then out comes the axle from the wheel then through the spacer... then left swing arm then axle nut....

is the above right?

you need the spacers that go with the wheel and swing arm you are using, nothing custom, since an '08 wheel is made to fit an '08 swinger
