LED/DIODE question.
Hey guys. I did the usual (BM Integrated and Protons) and of course have the both sides lighting up issue. I bought a DIODE set, but lost 'em before I could install 'em. They're too danged small.
Anyway, I'm ready to head to Fry's or Radio Shack for new diodes, but what kind do I get? I know it's probably in one of the other numerous threads about this subject, but since I have to ask my next question anyway, I may as well just ask here too about the diode type (aka, I'm lazy). More importantly, getting the front fairing off to get access to the blinker light looks like a serious PITA. Is their an easier place, like maybe under the side fairings that I could splice the diodes into? I've seen the wiring diagrams, but they aren't my friends, if ya' khow what I mean. So could I just splice them in line with the front blinkers or something? Or is right their under the front cowling, right at the blinker light the only viable place for them? Kk, thanks for readin'. Chris P.S. I don't wanna order another set of diodes online as I only have five days to get all my bike projects done before going on a road trip. |

Any diode for 12v application will work. I posted the model for one in a thread somewhere here 3 years ago if you search.

anything other than a zener, and they have to be installed at the common turn sig bulb on the cluster. You could install them at the cluster harness, but it wouldnt come out as nice......... or maybe it would

Any 1N400? will work but the 2 MUST be installed on the 2 wires that go to the dash ind. bulb. You can not put them on the 4 stalks.

Would do all the cutting on the cluster side of connector.
Couple schematic pics, #12 is the common turn sig bulb on cluster. GY is gray wire from right turn sigs, G is green wire from left turn sigs. Black/yellow is a nice splice point right there for the ground(not shown, but is on the bigger of the two connectors). That other thread started out nice, then turned into bike monkey tail lite talk.. |

Thanks for the link KKIM. That's the one I was thinking of.
HKr1. On the drawing, just to the right of your diodes I see a wire junction for both G and GY. Do you buy chance know what part of the bike these junctions are at? I'm thinking maybe I could splice into the wiring harness at that point, add the two diodes, bridge G and GY together, and add a pigtail to ground from wherever that junction is, using whichever wire is left over. Then just re-wrap the harness, and Viola. I would just man up and strip it all the way down, but I have a LOT of little projects and stuff to get done, and not much time to do them before a big road trip. So I'm trying to take shortcuts wherever possible. I'm at work another 10 hours, then in meetings all day tomorrow, so I have plenty of time to "Virtually" do the work. Aka research |

I wouldn't recommend burying non-stock circuit mods inside a wrapped harness, although the possibility of failure of this mod is virtually nil. It's the easiest right at the socket and a dash illum bulb ground is right there.

That said, the junction sockets are accessible from the left side of the bike once the left lower fairing is removed. But as others have mentioned, I'd suggest just sticking with the 'standard' location. It's another 5 min of work to remove the front fairing and if you think it's a pain now, imagine trying to fix it on the side of the road if the 'quick & sloppy' fails on you (unlikely, but worst case).
